Stage 6: Transylvania - Dracula's Castle

Welcome, brave hunter, to the final gauntlet! Dracula's Castle is a treacherous maze of the undead, designed to break your spirit before you even lay eyes on the Count himself. This stage demands precision, patience, and mastery of your chosen hero's abilities. Prepare for a relentless assault and some of the game's most challenging platforming.

Castle Entrance & Grand Hall

  • Initial Gauntlet: As you enter, you'll be immediately assailed by a barrage of Skeletons and Fleamen. Prioritize the Fleamen as their erratic jumps can be difficult to predict.
  • Candle Items: Look for candles containing Hearts and potentially a Sub-Weapon upgrade (like the Axe or Boomerang, which are excellent for this stage).
  • Medusa Heads: The infamous Medusa Heads will begin to appear in greater numbers. Learn their flight patterns and strike them down quickly to avoid being petrified.
  • First Staircase: Ascend the grand staircase, dealing with more Skeletons and Fleamen. At the top, you'll find a few more candles.

Clock Tower Ascent

This section is a vertical climb filled with moving gears, disappearing blocks, and flying enemies. It's a true test of platforming skill.

  • Gear Platforms: Carefully time your jumps across the rotating gears. Some gears will move horizontally or vertically, requiring precise timing.
  • Harpy Nests: Harpies will swoop down from above. Use your whip/spear to dispatch them before they knock you off a platform.
  • Disappearing Blocks: A classic Castlevania challenge! These blocks appear and disappear in a set pattern. Observe the pattern before committing to a jump.
  • Hidden Item: On one of the higher platforms, usually near a series of disappearing blocks, smash a candle to reveal a Large Heart or a Rosary, which can clear the screen of minor enemies.
  • Bone Pillars: Watch out for Bone Pillars that shoot fireballs. Attack them from a distance or quickly get past their firing range.

The Inner Keep

After the Clock Tower, you'll reach the castle's interior, a series of ornate but deadly chambers.

  • Armored Knights: These heavily armored foes take multiple hits. Use charged attacks if playing as John, or multiple whip strikes as Eric. Sub-weapons like the Axe can be very effective.
  • Spike Traps: Be wary of floors and ceilings with retractable spikes. Observe their timing and move quickly through these sections.
  • Ghostly Encounters: Ghosts will float through walls and ceilings. They are usually easy to defeat but can be annoying in tight spaces.
  • Meat Item: In a hidden wall near a particularly challenging spike trap section, you might find a Meat item, crucial for restoring health before the final boss.
  • Final Corridor: The corridor leading to Dracula's chamber is often guarded by a gauntlet of various enemies, including Mummies and more Armored Knights. Conserve your sub-weapon ammo here for the upcoming battles.

Boss: Death

Before facing Dracula, you must confront his loyal lieutenant, Death. This battle takes place in a large, open chamber.

  • Scythe Attacks: Death will float around the room, summoning large, homing scythes. These scythes are fast and can be difficult to avoid.
  • Bone Pillars: He will also summon Bone Pillars to assist him, which shoot fireballs. Prioritize destroying these pillars to create safe zones.
  • Strategy:
    • John Morris: Use your whip's extended reach and charged attacks. The Axe sub-weapon is excellent for hitting Death when he's high up.
    • Eric Lecarde: His spear's diagonal attack is invaluable here. Use the Boomerang sub-weapon for consistent damage.
    • Evasion: Focus on dodging the scythes. They often follow a predictable pattern once summoned. Stay mobile and attack Death whenever he pauses to summon.
    • Weak Point: Death's head is his weak point. Aim for it whenever possible.

Boss: Dracula

The Lord of Darkness awaits in his throne room. This is the ultimate test of your skill and endurance.

  • Phase 1: Human Form
    • Dracula teleports around the room, firing three-way fireballs.
    • Strategy: Stay close to him if possible, getting in quick hits after he teleports. The Axe or Boomerang can hit him reliably as he moves. Dodge the fireballs by moving between them.
  • Phase 2: Bat Form
    • After taking enough damage, Dracula transforms into a giant bat. He flies erratically, swooping down to attack and occasionally firing projectiles.
    • Strategy: This form is more challenging. Jump and attack his head whenever he swoops low. Use your sub-weapon liberally if you have a good supply of Hearts. Maintain distance when he's high up and prepare to dodge his dive attacks.
  • Phase 3: Demon Form
    • Dracula's final, most monstrous form. He becomes a massive demon, often rooted to one side of the screen, firing powerful energy blasts and summoning smaller projectiles.
    • Strategy: This is an endurance fight. His weak point is often his head or chest. John can use his whip's reach to hit him from a safer distance, while Eric's diagonal spear attack is perfect for hitting his upper body. Conserve your sub-weapons for this phase if possible, especially the Axe for consistent damage. Focus on dodging his powerful attacks and chipping away at his health. This is where all your practiced skills come into play!

Defeat Dracula, and you will have liberated Transylvania from his curse once more. Congratulations, vampire hunter!
