The Pinnacle

Welcome, brave vampire hunter, to the chilling heights of The Pinnacle! This area is a true test of your accumulated skills and souls. Expect challenging enemies, intricate platforming, and valuable treasures. Make sure your equipment is optimized, and you have a good stock of healing items before ascending.

Navigating the Ascent

Upon entering The Pinnacle from the Condemned Tower, you'll find yourself in a vertical shaft. Your primary goal here is to ascend, but there are numerous detours for items and exploration.

  • Initial Ascent: Head straight up. You'll immediately encounter a new enemy, the Gorgon. These Medusa-like creatures can petrify you with their gaze, so be quick to dispatch them or use the Stone Killer soul if you have it.
  • First Branching Path (Left): About halfway up the first vertical shaft, you'll see a path leading left. Take it.
    • You'll enter a room with several Gorgons and Succubi. Clear them out.
    • In the far left of this room, you'll find a chest containing a High Potion.
    • Continue left into another small room. Here, you'll discover a Save Point. Use it! This is crucial before proceeding further into The Pinnacle.
    • From the Save Point, drop down to find a hidden passage leading to a chest with a Rune Ring. This accessory is excellent for mages.
  • Continuing Upwards: Return to the main vertical shaft and continue your ascent. You'll encounter more Gorgons and the formidable Iron Golem. The Iron Golem has high defense, so use your strongest physical attacks or magic.
  • Second Branching Path (Right): Near the top of this shaft, a path opens to the right.
    • This path leads to a room with several Succubi and Minotaurs. The Minotaurs hit hard, so be prepared to dodge their axe swings.
    • At the end of this path, you'll find a chest containing a Super Potion.

The Upper Reaches and Boss Prep

Once you've explored the initial branches, continue to the very top of the main vertical shaft. You'll reach a horizontal corridor.

  • Horizontal Corridor: This area is teeming with Gorgons and Hellfire enemies. The Hellfire enemies shoot fireballs, so be mindful of their projectiles.
  • Hidden Room (Top Left): In the top-left corner of this horizontal corridor, look for a breakable wall. Smash it to reveal a hidden room. Inside, you'll find a chest containing the powerful Death Scythe weapon. This is an excellent upgrade if you're using scythes!
  • Boss Chamber Entrance: Proceed to the right end of the horizontal corridor. You'll find a large door, indicating a boss battle is imminent.
  • Final Preparations: Before entering the boss chamber, consider the following:
    • Heal Up: Use any potions or spells to restore your HP and MP to maximum.
    • Equip Souls:
      • Bullet Soul: A strong, multi-hit soul like Killer Clown or Mandragora can be effective.
      • Guardian Soul: Gergoth for defense or Great Axe Armor for offense are good choices.
      • Enchant Soul: Succubus for HP drain or Ghost for luck are always useful.
    • Weapon Choice: Equip your strongest weapon. If you just acquired the Death Scythe, now's the time to try it out!
    • Save: If you haven't recently, warp back to the Save Point you found earlier in The Pinnacle and save your progress.

Boss Battle: Paranoia

The boss of The Pinnacle is Paranoia, a terrifying entity that manipulates reflections. This fight requires careful positioning and timing.

  • Phase 1: Mirror Image
    • Paranoia will appear in the center of the room, surrounded by mirrors. It will attack by sending out projectiles from these mirrors.
    • Your primary target is Paranoia itself. Attack it directly when it's visible.
    • Occasionally, Paranoia will disappear and then reappear in one of the mirrors. When it does this, quickly identify which mirror it's in and attack that mirror. Destroying the mirror will force Paranoia out and stun it briefly, allowing for free hits.
    • Watch out for the reflections of yourself that Paranoia creates; these will mimic your movements and attack you. Avoid them as best you can.
  • Phase 2: Mirror World
    • Once you've dealt enough damage, Paranoia will shatter the mirrors and transport you to a "mirror world."
    • In this phase, the room will be filled with distorted reflections. Paranoia will move quickly, often appearing and disappearing.
    • Its main attack here is to summon large, distorted hands from the background that swipe across the screen. These are well-telegraphed, so dash or jump to avoid them.
    • Focus on hitting Paranoia whenever it becomes vulnerable. Bullet Souls with good range can be very effective here.
  • Strategy Tips:
    • Stay Mobile: Paranoia's attacks cover a lot of ground. Don't stand still.
    • Identify the Real Target: In Phase 1, quickly distinguish between Paranoia and its mirror images.
    • Soul Usage: A powerful Bullet Soul can make short work of Paranoia when it's stunned or vulnerable.
    • Healing: Don't be afraid to use High Potions or Super Potions if your HP drops low.

Defeating Paranoia will grant you its soul, Paranoia Soul, which allows you to create a mirror image of yourself to attack. You will also gain access to the next area, the Demon Guest House.
