Shields in Castlevania II offer passive defense against certain projectiles. While not as impactful as whip upgrades, they can reduce incoming damage from specific enemy attacks.
- Leather Shield (50 Hearts): Available in Jova. Provides basic protection against some projectiles.
- Iron Shield (150 Hearts): Available in Veros and Aldora. Offers better protection than the Leather Shield.
- Magic Shield (250 Hearts): Available in Brahm. The best shield in the game, offering the most comprehensive protection.
Shields are automatically equipped once purchased. They don't require any active input from the player. While not strictly necessary, acquiring the Magic Shield can be beneficial for the later stages of the game, especially in Dracula's Castle where projectiles are abundant. Consider them a lower priority than whip upgrades and essential sub-weapons, but a good investment if you have spare hearts.
