Castlevania II is famous (or infamous) for its cryptic and often misleading NPC dialogue. Many villagers offer seemingly helpful advice that is actually a red herring or requires specific context.
- 'Don't look into the death of a vampire's eye': This is a direct reference to Dracula's Eye. When equipped, it allows you to see hidden platforms. The clue is meant to imply that looking into it reveals secrets.
- 'Wait for a soul to rise': This refers to the hidden tornado revealed by the Red Crystal. You must wait for the tornado to appear after using the crystal.
- 'Hit the old man with your whip': This is a notorious red herring. Whipping villagers does nothing but make them disappear temporarily. Do not waste your time or risk getting hit by a zombie villager at night.
- 'A white crystal will show you the way': A genuine clue for using the White Crystal to reveal the bridge to Bodley Mansion.
The best approach is to treat all dialogue with skepticism. Some clues are genuine, but many are designed to confuse. Focus on the direct actions required by key items (like the crystals) rather than trying to decipher every single phrase.
