Ending Requirements
Unlike many Castlevania titles, Dracula's Curse offers multiple endings based on your choices throughout the game. These endings primarily hinge on which companions you recruit and, crucially, who is with Trevor Belmont when he delivers the final blow to Dracula. To achieve specific endings, careful planning and execution are required from the early stages of your journey.
Recruiting Companions
There are three potential companions in Castlevania III: Syfa Belnades, Grant Danasty, and Alucard. Each offers unique abilities that can significantly alter your gameplay experience. To recruit them, you must defeat a specific boss and then interact with their petrified form.
- Syfa Belnades (The Sorceress):
- Location: Clock Tower of Untimely Death (Level 2).
- Recruitment: Defeat the Cyclops boss at the top of the tower. After the battle, Syfa's petrified form will be revealed. Touch her to recruit her.
- Path Impact: Recruiting Syfa opens up a path through the Forest of Darkness (Level 3) leading to the Ghost Ship (Level 4).
- Grant Danasty (The Thief):
- Location: Murky Marsh of Morbid Morons (Underground Route, Level 4).
- Recruitment: Defeat the Mummy Man boss. Grant's petrified form will be in the boss chamber. Touch him to recruit him.
- Path Impact: Grant is found on the underground route, which is accessed by taking the lower path after the Clock Tower.
- Alucard (Dracula's Son):
- Location: Catacombs (Level 6).
- Recruitment: Defeat the Frankenstein's Monster boss. Alucard's petrified form will be in the boss chamber. Touch him to recruit him.
- Path Impact: Alucard is typically the last companion you can recruit, found deeper within Dracula's domain.
Ending Variations
The game features several distinct endings, primarily determined by who is in your party when you defeat Dracula. The "best" ending is generally considered to be the one where all three companions survive and join Trevor.
- Trevor Alone Ending:
- Requirement: Do not recruit any companions, or ensure all recruited companions are defeated before the final battle with Dracula.
- Outcome: Trevor stands alone against Dracula, and the ending sequence will reflect his solitary victory.
- Trevor + One Companion Ending:
- Requirement: Recruit one companion (Syfa, Grant, or Alucard) and ensure they are alive when you defeat Dracula.
- Outcome: Trevor and the surviving companion will be featured in the ending sequence. The specific companion will be shown.
- Trevor + Two Companions Ending:
- Requirement: Recruit two companions and ensure both are alive when you defeat Dracula.
- Outcome: Trevor and the two surviving companions will appear in the ending.
- Trevor + All Three Companions Ending (Best Ending):
- Requirement: Recruit Syfa, Grant, and Alucard, and ensure all three are alive and in your party when you defeat Dracula. This is the most challenging ending to achieve, as it requires careful management of your party members' health and strategic switching.
- Outcome: Trevor and all three companions will be shown together, signifying a complete victory and a more hopeful future for Wallachia.
Strategic Considerations for Endings
- Companion Management: Remember that if a companion's HP drops to zero, they are permanently lost for that playthrough. You cannot revive them. Switch between characters frequently to preserve their health, especially in challenging areas or against bosses.
- Path Selection: Your choice of path after Level 2 (Clock Tower) will determine which companions you encounter first. The underground route leads to Grant, while the upper route leads to Syfa. To recruit all three, you will need to take specific routes that allow you to encounter each character's recruitment point.
- Final Battle: The character who lands the final blow on Dracula does not affect the ending, only who is currently in your party and alive. Focus on keeping your desired companions alive throughout the final stages of the game.
