Welcome, warrior, to the final confrontation. Chapter IX is a gauntlet of trials designed to test everything you've learned. Prepare for intense combat, challenging platforming, and the ultimate showdown with the Lord of Shadow himself.

9-1: The Lord of Shadow

This is it. The final battle for the fate of the world. This level is a direct path to the boss, so ensure your Gabriel is fully upgraded and ready for anything.

Walkthrough

1. Initial Ascent: As the level begins, you'll find yourself on a crumbling path. Immediately proceed forward. The path will quickly give way, so be ready to jump across the gaps.
2. First Encounter: You'll soon encounter a group of Lesser Lycans. These are not particularly challenging, but they serve as a warm-up. Dispatch them quickly to conserve your Light and Shadow Magic.
3. Navigating the Ruins: Continue through the ruined castle. You'll encounter more platforming sections involving wall-climbing and grappling with your Combat Cross. Keep an eye out for glowing grapple points.
4. Mini-Boss - Stone Golem: In a large, circular arena, you'll face a Stone Golem. This enemy is slow but hits hard.
• Strategy: Focus on dodging its slow, sweeping attacks. Use your Shadow Magic to enhance your damage output, particularly with powerful combos like the "Guillotine" or "Cyclone." Once its health is low, a QTE prompt will appear to finish it off.
5. Path to the Summit: After defeating the Golem, a new path will open. Continue climbing, using ledges and your Combat Cross to ascend. You may encounter a few more Lesser Lycans or even a Vampire Warrior on your way up.
6. Final Preparations: Before reaching the boss arena, you'll find a healing font and a magic font. Fully replenish your health and both Light and Shadow Magic here. This is your last chance to prepare.
7. Entering the Arena: Proceed through the large archway. A cinematic will trigger, leading directly into the boss fight.

Collectibles

• Life Gem: There is one hidden Life Gem in this level. After the first platforming section, look for a crumbling wall to your left. Break it with a strong attack to reveal a hidden alcove containing the gem.
• Magic Gem (Light): After defeating the Stone Golem, before you start climbing the final ascent, look to the right of the newly opened path. There's a small, easily missed ledge with a glowing chest containing a Light Magic Gem.
• Magic Gem (Shadow): During the final climbing section, after the Stone Golem, you'll reach a point where you need to grapple across a wide chasm. Instead of grappling directly across, look down and to your left. There's a lower ledge with a chest containing a Shadow Magic Gem.

9-2: The Final Battle

The moment of truth has arrived. This entire level is dedicated to the epic confrontation with the Lord of Shadow. Be prepared for a multi-phase battle that will test your reflexes, your mastery of Gabriel's abilities, and your endurance.

Boss Battle: The Lord of Shadow

The Lord of Shadow is a formidable opponent with several devastating attacks. This battle unfolds in several distinct phases, each requiring a different approach.

Phase 1: Ground Combat

• Attacks: The Lord of Shadow will primarily use powerful melee attacks with his sword, including wide sweeps and lunges. He can also summon dark energy projectiles that track Gabriel.
• Strategy:
  • Dodge and Counter: Focus on perfect dodges to create openings. His attacks are telegraphed, but fast.
  • Light Magic Focus: Use Light Magic to heal yourself during brief lulls and to enhance your defensive capabilities.
  • Shadow Magic Burst: When you have a clear opening, activate Shadow Magic and unleash your most powerful combos. The "Chain Barrier" can also be useful for deflecting his projectiles.
  • Exploit Openings: After certain heavy attacks, he will be momentarily vulnerable. Capitalize on these moments with sustained combos.

Phase 2: Aerial Assault

Once you've dealt enough damage, the Lord of Shadow will take to the air, becoming more agile and introducing new attacks.

• Attacks: He will swoop down with powerful aerial attacks, launch larger, more damaging dark energy blasts, and occasionally summon smaller, shadowy minions to distract you.
• Strategy:
  • Maintain Distance: Keep moving to avoid his swooping attacks.
  • Grapple Points: Look for glowing grapple points that appear around the arena. Use your Combat Cross to launch yourself into the air and attack him directly. This is crucial for dealing significant damage in this phase.
  • Deal with Minions: Quickly dispatch any summoned minions to prevent them from overwhelming you. Area-of-effect attacks are useful here.
  • Timing is Key: Time your aerial attacks carefully. He will often retaliate after being hit, so be ready to dodge upon landing.

Phase 3: Desperation and Finality

In his final phase, the Lord of Shadow will become more aggressive and combine elements from previous phases, often with increased speed and power. He may also introduce a new, devastating ultimate attack.

• Attacks: Expect a combination of fast melee strikes, powerful aerial dives, and a barrage of dark magic. He might also charge up a large, unblockable attack that requires precise dodging.

  • Conserve Magic: Use your remaining Light and Shadow Magic judiciously. Prioritize healing with Light Magic if your health is low.

  • Relic Usage: This is the time to use any remaining relics like the Fairy or the Dark Gauntlet for extra damage or defense.
  • QTE Finish: As his health dwindles, a final, intense Quick Time Event sequence will initiate. Successfully complete these prompts to deliver the finishing blow.
