Chapter I: The Besieged Village

Chapter I introduces Gabriel Belmont, a knight of the Brotherhood of Light, on his quest to understand the mysterious plague afflicting humanity and to resurrect his murdered wife, Marie. His journey begins in a land ravaged by dark creatures, leading him to a besieged village where he seeks answers and the first pieces of the God Mask.

Mission 1-1: Wygol Village

  • Objective: Reach the village and investigate the disappearances.
  • Location: A forest path leading to the outskirts of Wygol Village.
  • Enemies: Goblins, Wargs.
  • Walkthrough:
    1. Gabriel begins his quest on a desolate forest path. Your first encounters will be with Goblins, small, agile creatures that attack in numbers. This is your tutorial for basic combat: practice your direct attacks, blocks, and dodges.
    2. Proceed along the path, using the environmental prompts to jump across gaps and climb ledges. After a short climb, you'll find a Healing Fountain, which fully replenishes Gabriel's health. Use it wisely throughout your journey.
    3. Continue through a ruined archway. A cutscene will trigger, revealing the grim state of Wygol Village, overrun by dark forces.
    4. Upon entering the main village area, you'll be ambushed by more Goblins and your first Wargs. Wargs are wolf-like creatures that are faster and hit harder than Goblins. Focus on parrying their attacks and using area-of-effect abilities to clear groups.
    5. Strategy Tip: When facing multiple enemies, prioritize the Wargs, as they can quickly close distances and deal significant damage. Use the Combat Cross's chain whip to keep Goblins at bay.

Mission 1-2: The Dead Bog

    3. Item Location (Shadow Gem): After crossing the first bridge, before the second, look to your right. There's often dense foliage or a small, obscured path leading to a hidden area. Here, you'll find a Shadow Gem, increasing your maximum Shadow Magic capacity.
    4. You will soon encounter your first Swamp Troll, a large, grotesque mini-boss.
      • Swamp Troll Strategy: The Swamp Troll is slow but powerful. Its attacks are telegraphed, so focus on dodging. Its front is heavily armored; you must wait for it to attack, then dodge behind it to strike its vulnerable back. Use your chain whip's grapple to pull it off balance if it tries to recover.
      • After taking enough damage, the Troll will become stunned, allowing you to initiate a QTE (Quick Time Event) to finish it.
    5. Once the Swamp Troll is defeated, a new path will become accessible. Follow it, dealing with more groups of Goblins, some of whom will be mounted on Wargs.
    6. Combat Tip: When Goblins are mounted on Wargs, prioritize dismounting the Goblin rider first. Use your grapple (hold the grab button) to pull them off, then focus on the now riderless Warg. This makes the fight significantly easier.

Mission 1-3: The Hunting Path

    3. After defeating the first Armored Troll, you'll typically find a Brotherhood Ark nearby. This Ark contains a Life Gem, which increases your maximum health. Always seek these out!
    4. Continue your ascent, using Gabriel's acrobatic abilities for wall-climbing sections and grappling points to cross chasms. Pay attention to glowing ledges and grapple points.

Mission 1-6: The Stone Garden

  • Walkthrough:
    1. Boss Battle: Cornell, the Lycanthrope Lord. Cornell is the first Lord of Shadow you face, a powerful and cunning adversary.

      • Cornell begins in a humanoid, albeit monstrous, form. He is incredibly fast and uses devastating claw attacks and quick combos.
      • Strategy: Focus on dodging his attacks and countering with quick, precise combos. Do not get greedy with your attacks. He will occasionally summon Lesser Lycanthropes to aid him. Defeat these minions quickly, as they often drop magic orbs, which are crucial for replenishing your magic meters.
      • Use your Light Magic to heal if your health drops significantly, but try to conserve your Shadow Magic for his second phase.
      • After taking enough damage, Cornell will be stunned, allowing you to initiate a QTE. Successfully completing it will transition him to his next phase.
    3. Phase 2: Beast Form.
      • Cornell transforms into a massive, hulking beast. His attacks become slower but far more devastating, including powerful charges, ground stomps, and wide-sweeping claw attacks.
      • Strategy: The key here is to maintain distance and exploit his openings. Dodge his charges and attack his hind legs or back when he is recovering. When he roars, prepare for a powerful ground slam that creates a shockwave; jump to avoid it.
      • This is where your Shadow Magic becomes invaluable. Activate it for increased damage output when Cornell is vulnerable, especially after a successful dodge or parry.
      • Continue to chip away at his health, dodging his powerful blows. He may occasionally revert to his humanoid form briefly or summon more minions. Adapt your strategy accordingly.
      • Once his health is depleted, a final QTE will trigger, allowing Gabriel to finish him off.
    4. Reward: After defeating Cornell, a cutscene will play, and you will acquire the Relic of the Lycanthrope Lord, which grants Gabriel a new ability (e.g., the Cyclone Boots for enhanced mobility). You also obtain the first piece of the God Mask.
