Boss: Beelzebub
Beelzebub, the Lord of the Flies, is a formidable boss found in the Dark Academy. This multi-segmented, grotesque boss can be a significant challenge if you're unprepared. Focus on exploiting its weaknesses and maintaining constant movement.
Preparation is Key
Before entering the boss arena, ensure you have the following:
- Healing Items: Stock up on Potions, High Potions, and Super Potions. Beelzebub's attacks can deal heavy damage.
- Sub-Weapons: The Axe is highly effective against Beelzebub due to its arc and ability to hit multiple segments. The Holy Water can also be useful for consistent damage if you can land it.
- Equipment:
- Weapon: A fast-hitting weapon for Jonathan (e.g., Valmanway if you have it, or a strong whip like the Vampire Killer). For Charlotte, equip a powerful spell like Thunderbolt or Hellfire.
- Armor: Prioritize defense. The Bishamon Raiment (found in Hard 11) or similar high-defense armor is recommended.
- Accessories: The Artemis Shoes (Hard 6,7,8,9,10,11) for increased mobility and the Assassin's Cape (Normal 8,9,10,11; Hard 1,2,3,4,5,6,7) for critical hit chance are excellent choices.
- Partner Setup: Keep both Jonathan and Charlotte active. Charlotte's magic can deal significant damage, especially if you have a high INT stat.
Battle Strategy
Beelzebub's attacks are primarily focused on summoning flies and charging. The key is to stay mobile and attack its vulnerable segments.
Phase 1: Initial Assault
- Target the Head: Beelzebub's head is its primary weak point. However, it's often protected by its body segments.
- Segment Destruction: Prioritize destroying the individual body segments. Each segment you destroy reduces Beelzebub's overall health and makes it easier to reach the head.
- Fly Swarms: Beelzebub will frequently summon swarms of flies. These can be annoying and deal chip damage. Use Jonathan's whip or Charlotte's area-of-effect spells to clear them quickly. The Axe sub-weapon is also excellent for this.
- Charging Attack: Beelzebub will occasionally charge across the screen. This is telegraphed by a slight pause. Double jump or use your partner's special ability (e.g., Charlotte's "Heal" to become temporarily invincible) to dodge this.
Phase 2: Exposed Core
Once enough segments are destroyed, Beelzebub's core will be exposed. This is your prime opportunity to deal massive damage.
- Unleash Everything: Use your most powerful attacks here. Jonathan's special attacks (e.g., Grand Cross if you have it) and Charlotte's high-damage spells like Thunderbolt or Hellfire are ideal.
- Stay Aggressive: Don't let up. Beelzebub will still summon flies and attempt to charge, but its defenses are significantly weaker.
- Partner Combo: Consider using a partner combo attack if you have one charged. This can deal a burst of damage to the exposed core.
Tips for Success
- Movement is Life: Constantly move, double jump, and backdash to avoid Beelzebub's charges and fly swarms.
- Sub-Weapon Management: Don't be afraid to use your sub-weapons frequently, especially the Axe. Keep an eye on your MP.
- Heal Proactively: Don't wait until your health is critical. Use healing items when you have a moment of respite.
- Magic for Flies: Charlotte's magic is excellent for clearing the fly swarms, allowing Jonathan to focus on Beelzebub's body.
- Practice: If you're struggling, don't be discouraged. Learn Beelzebub's attack patterns and adjust your strategy accordingly.
