Boss: Dodo
The Dodo is less of a traditional boss fight and more of a rare, high-reward encounter. This elusive creature drops the highly sought-after Dodo Feather, an essential ingredient for certain item syntheses and a valuable collectible.
Location and Appearance Rate
You'll find the Dodo exclusively in the City of Haze portrait, specifically in the room to the left of the area where you encounter the large poison worm enemies. This is the second-to-last room on the left side of that particular map segment.
The Dodo is not a guaranteed spawn. It has a very low appearance rate, estimated to be around 10%. This means you'll likely need to enter and exit the room multiple times before it appears.
Strategy for Encountering the Dodo
Due to its low spawn rate and tendency to flee, a specific strategy is required to successfully hunt the Dodo:
- Enter the Room: Head into the second-to-last room on the left in the City of Haze.
- Check for Dodo: Upon entering, immediately scan the room for the Dodo. It's a large, flightless bird.
- Reset if Absent: If the Dodo does not appear within approximately 5 seconds of entering, immediately exit the room to the left (into the last room on that path) and then re-enter. Repeat this process until the Dodo spawns.
Strategy for Defeating the Dodo
Once the Dodo appears, you have a very narrow window to defeat it. The Dodo will attempt to run away as soon as it spots you. Therefore, your primary goal is to eliminate it in a single, powerful hit.
Recommended Preparations:
- High Damage Output: Equip your strongest weapon. The Holy Claymore is an excellent choice if you can afford it from Vincent's shop, offering significant damage. Other strong weapons like the Valmanway (if you've acquired it) or a fully upgraded whip will also work.
- Sub-Weapons: Consider using powerful sub-weapons that can deal burst damage or freeze time.
- Axe: A well-aimed Axe can deal substantial damage.
- Cross: The Cross sub-weapon can hit multiple times and is generally powerful.
- Time Stop (Optional but Recommended): If you have access to a Time Stop spell or item, this can be incredibly useful. Activating Time Stop as soon as you see the Dodo will freeze it in place, allowing you to land multiple hits without it fleeing.
- Jump Attack: A jump attack with a strong weapon is often the most reliable way to land a critical, one-hit blow.
Execution:
- Spot the Dodo: As soon as you enter the room and confirm the Dodo's presence, prepare your attack.
- Immediate Action:
- If using Time Stop, cast it immediately.
- If relying on raw damage, jump towards the Dodo and unleash your most powerful attack (e.g., a jump attack with your strongest weapon or a well-timed sub-weapon).
- One-Hit Kill: The goal is to defeat the Dodo before it has a chance to react and flee. If it escapes, you'll need to reset the room and try again.
Reward
Upon successfully defeating the Dodo, it will drop the Dodo Feather. This rare material is crucial for crafting certain powerful items through the Item Synthesis system. Continue hunting the Dodo if you require multiple feathers for various crafting recipes.
