Boss: The Creature

The Creature is a formidable foe found in the Dark Academy. This boss is a large, lumbering Frankenstein-esque monster with powerful, yet predictable, attacks. Successfully defeating The Creature requires careful positioning and understanding its attack patterns.

Recommended Preparations

  • Level: Aim for at least Level 20-25.
  • Equipment:
    • For Jonathan, equip a strong whip like the Vampire Killer or Alucard's Spear if you've acquired it.
    • For Charlotte, focus on offensive spells. Thunderbolt is particularly effective due to The Creature's weakness.
    • Consider accessories that boost ATK or INT, such as the Strength Ring or Sorceress Crest.
  • Sub-Weapons: Jonathan should have the Axe sub-weapon mastered or at a high level. It deals significant damage and can hit The Creature's head.
  • Spells: Charlotte's Thunderbolt spell is highly recommended.
  • Consumables: Stock up on High Potions and Mana Prisms.

Strategy

The Creature has a straightforward attack pattern, making it vulnerable to players who can anticipate its moves. The key is to exploit its slow movement and its weakness to lightning and axes.

Phase 1: Ground Attacks

The Creature primarily uses two ground-based attacks:

  1. Body Slam: The Creature will jump into the air and attempt to slam down on your current position.
    • Evasion: Slide under The Creature as it jumps. This will position you safely behind it, allowing for a few free hits.
    • Attack Opportunity: After sliding, unleash a quick combo with Jonathan's whip or a powerful spell with Charlotte.
  2. Polearm Lunge: The Creature will lean back slightly, indicating it's about to lunge forward with its large polearm.
    • Evasion: As soon as you see it lean back, run away to create distance. The lunge has decent range.
    • Attack Opportunity: This attack leaves The Creature vulnerable for a short period after it extends. If you're quick, you can get a hit in before it recovers.

Phase 2: Spirit Attack

Periodically, The Creature will raise its hand, and its head will detach and reattach to its body. Following this, several spirits will emanate from its body and fly towards you.

  1. Initial Spirits: 4-6 larger spirits will fly in a somewhat erratic pattern.
    • Evasion: Watch their movement carefully and jump or duck to avoid them.
    • Attack Opportunity: Focus on dodging during this part.
  2. Small Spirits: After the initial spirits, The Creature will fire a volley of many small spirits.
    • Evasion/Defense: Jonathan can use his whip to deflect these small spirits, protecting both himself and Charlotte. Charlotte can also use her shield spell if available.
    • Attack Opportunity: This is a good time for Charlotte to cast Thunderbolt if Jonathan is deflecting the spirits, as The Creature remains stationary.

Character Specific Tactics

  • Jonathan:
    • Prioritize using the Axe sub-weapon when The Creature is vulnerable, especially after a body slam or during its spirit attack. The Axe's arc can hit its head for critical damage.
    • Keep your distance during the polearm lunge and slide under the body slam.
    • Use the Vampire Killer or Alucard's Spear for regular attacks when close.
  • Charlotte:
    • Her Thunderbolt spell is your best friend here. Cast it whenever The Creature is open, particularly after a body slam or during the small spirit attack.
    • Maintain distance and focus on dodging. Her physical attacks are less effective against The Creature.
    • Consider using the Heal spell if either character takes significant damage.
  • Dual Crush:
    • The Thunderbolt Dual Crush is devastating against The Creature due to its lightning weakness. Save your MP for this if you're struggling.
    • The Axe Dual Crush is also effective and can hit multiple times.
