Dual Crushes are powerful, cooperative attacks executed by Jonathan and Charlotte. These devastating techniques consume a significant amount of MP but can turn the tide of battle, especially against tough bosses or large groups of enemies. Mastering their use is crucial for efficient monster slaying and navigating the more challenging areas of Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin.

To activate a Dual Crush, both characters must be present and relatively close to each other. Pressing the designated Dual Crush button (typically the X button by default) will initiate the attack. Each Dual Crush has a unique MP cost and effect, ranging from massive damage to status ailments or even healing.

Understanding Dual Crush Mechanics

• MP Cost: Every Dual Crush has a fixed MP cost. Ensure both Jonathan and Charlotte have sufficient MP before attempting to use one. Running out of MP mid-animation will cancel the attack and waste the remaining MP.
• Activation: The Dual Crush button (X) triggers these abilities. Timing can be important, especially for attacks with a narrow area of effect.
• Character Proximity: For most Dual Crushes, Jonathan and Charlotte need to be relatively close to each other. If they are too far apart, the Dual Crush will not activate.
• Invincibility Frames: During the animation of many Dual Crushes, both characters gain temporary invincibility, making them excellent for avoiding boss attacks or clearing crowded screens.

Dual Crush List

1. Rush

Description: Jonathan and Charlotte charge forward in a synchronized attack, dealing physical damage to anything in their path.

• MP Cost: 30 MP
• Effect: Moderate physical damage to enemies directly in front of the characters. Effective for clearing a straight line of weaker foes or adding quick damage to a boss.
• Strategy: Best used when enemies are clustered horizontally. It has a relatively quick animation, making it suitable for opportunistic strikes.

2. Heal

Description: Charlotte casts a healing spell while Jonathan protects her, restoring a significant amount of HP to both characters.

• MP Cost: 50 MP
• Effect: Restores a large portion of HP to both Jonathan and Charlotte. The amount healed scales with Charlotte's INT stat.
• Strategy: An invaluable emergency heal. Use it when both characters are low on health, especially during boss fights. Find a safe window to activate, as the animation leaves you vulnerable for a moment before the healing takes effect.

3. Thunderbolt

Description: Charlotte summons a powerful lightning strike from above, while Jonathan provides cover. Deals electrical damage to enemies within the area of effect.

• MP Cost: 60 MP
• Effect: High electrical damage to enemies in a wide vertical area. Can hit multiple enemies simultaneously.
• Strategy: Excellent for enemies positioned above or below you, or for bosses with large hitboxes. The lightning strikes quickly, making it a good burst damage option.

4. Ice Age

Description: Jonathan and Charlotte combine their powers to unleash a freezing blast, dealing ice damage and potentially freezing enemies solid.

• MP Cost: 70 MP
• Effect: High ice damage and a chance to inflict the "Frozen" status ailment on enemies. Frozen enemies are temporarily immobilized and take increased damage from subsequent attacks.
• Strategy: Ideal for crowd control or setting up powerful follow-up attacks on bosses. Enemies like the Great Axe Armor or Minotaur can be frozen, giving you precious openings.

5. Explosion

Description: A devastating magical explosion erupts around Jonathan and Charlotte, dealing massive fire damage to all nearby enemies.

• MP Cost: 80 MP
• Effect: Extremely high fire damage to all enemies within a large radius around the characters.
• Strategy: Your go-to Dual Crush for clearing screens of enemies or dealing immense damage to bosses. The wide area of effect makes it forgiving to use. Be aware of the high MP cost.

6. Meteor

Description: Jonathan and Charlotte call down a shower of meteors from the sky, raining down fire and destruction upon their foes.

• MP Cost: 100 MP
• Effect: Multiple meteors strike the screen, dealing very high fire damage over a wide area. Each meteor hit is separate, potentially leading to multiple hits on larger enemies.
• Strategy: The most powerful offensive Dual Crush. Best reserved for the toughest bosses or situations where you need to clear the entire screen with extreme prejudice. The animation is longer, so ensure you have a safe window to cast.
