Relic Locations & Effects
Relics are invaluable items in Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin that grant Jonathan and Charlotte new abilities, allowing them to access previously unreachable areas, enhance their combat prowess, or simply make exploration more convenient. This section details each relic, its location, and the powerful effects it bestows.
Relic List & Acquisition Guide
-
Double Jump
- Effect: Allows both Jonathan and Charlotte to perform a second jump in mid-air, greatly increasing their vertical reach. Essential for platforming and accessing higher ledges.
- Location: Found in the City of Haze.
Walkthrough: After defeating the boss of the City of Haze, proceed through the newly opened pathway. The relic is located in a small chamber immediately following the boss arena. You cannot miss it as it's directly in your path to exit the painting.
-
Martial Art
- Effect: Enables Jonathan to perform special martial arts techniques by inputting specific button combinations. These techniques consume MP but can deal significant damage or offer unique utility.
- Location: Located in the Sandy Grave.
Walkthrough: Progress through the Sandy Grave until you reach the large, open vertical shaft with numerous mummies and skeletons. Climb to the very top of this shaft. The relic is in a room to the right, often guarded by a few enemies. Be prepared for a fight, as the enemies in this area can be tough.
-
High Jump
- Effect: Grants both characters the ability to perform an incredibly high jump by holding down the jump button. This is crucial for reaching very tall platforms and secret areas.
- Location: Discovered in the Nation of Fools.
Walkthrough: Navigate through the bizarre and disorienting Nation of Fools. The High Jump relic is found in a room towards the upper-right section of the map, often past a series of challenging platforming segments involving moving blocks or enemies that push you around. Look for a room that seems unusually high up and requires careful navigation to reach.
-
Super Jump
- Effect: An enhanced version of the High Jump, allowing for an even greater vertical leap. This is necessary for reaching the highest points of the castle and some late-game secrets.
- Location: Found in the Forest of Doom.
Walkthrough: As you explore the treacherous Forest of Doom, keep an eye out for a hidden pathway in the upper-left portion of the map. You'll need to use your Double Jump and potentially High Jump to reach a seemingly inaccessible ledge. Follow this hidden path to a secluded chamber where the Super Jump relic awaits. This area is often overlooked due to its subtle entrance.
-
Slide
- Effect: Allows both characters to perform a quick slide maneuver, enabling them to pass through narrow gaps and under low obstacles. Also useful for dodging certain attacks.
- Location: Obtained in the Dark Academy.
Walkthrough: Within the Dark Academy, proceed until you encounter a series of tight, horizontal passages that appear too small to walk through. The Slide relic is located in a room just before or after these passages, signaling its necessity. It's typically in a fairly straightforward path, but you'll need to defeat some of the Academy's magical foes to reach it.
-
Owl
- Effect: Summons an owl familiar that automatically attacks enemies. The owl's attacks are generally weak but can be useful for distracting foes or adding passive damage.
- Location: Acquired in the Castle after Doom (specifically, the main castle area after completing the Forest of Doom painting).
Walkthrough: After returning to the main castle from the Forest of Doom, head towards the eastern side of the castle, near the areas you explored early on. The Owl relic is found in a previously inaccessible room that now opens up. Look for a room that was blocked by a barrier or required an ability you didn't have previously. It's often in a vertical shaft or a room connected to one.
-
Stone of Flight
- Effect: Grants the ability to transform into a bat (Jonathan) or a succubus (Charlotte) for a limited time, allowing for free flight. This is invaluable for exploring large open areas and reaching very distant platforms.
- Location: Found in the Master's Keep.
Walkthrough: This late-game relic is located deep within the Master's Keep, the final area of the castle. You will typically find it after defeating several powerful enemies and navigating complex sections of the Keep. It's often in a chamber that requires a combination of your other movement abilities (Double Jump, High Jump, Super Jump) to reach, acting as a reward for mastering your movement. This relic is usually found shortly before the final boss encounters.
