Boss: Creature

The Creature is a formidable early-game boss found in the Underground Caverns, guarding the path forward. This hulking monstrosity can be a significant challenge if you're not prepared, but with the right strategy and equipment, you can emerge victorious.

Recommended Preparation

  • Weapon: The Bastard Sword (found in the Long Library) or the Broadsword (dropped by certain enemies or found in the Outer Wall) are excellent choices for their damage output. If you've been lucky, a Claymore would be even better.
  • Armor: Equip the best armor you have available. The Iron Cuirass or Bronze Cuirass are good options if you've found them.
  • Accessories: The Covenant Stone (if you have it from a previous playthrough or early drop) can provide a small but useful boost. Otherwise, any defensive accessory will do.
  • Sub-Weapon: The Axe is highly effective against the Creature due to its arc, allowing you to hit its head consistently. The Holy Water can also be useful for area denial and consistent damage if you can aim it well.
  • Consumables: Bring at least 2-3 Potions or High Potions. The Creature hits hard, and healing will be crucial.

Battle Strategy

The Creature has a straightforward attack pattern, but its attacks deal heavy damage. The key is to stay mobile and exploit its vulnerabilities.

Phase 1: Ground Attacks

  1. Initial Engagement: As the fight begins, the Creature will lumber towards you. Immediately jump and attack its head. This is its primary weak point.
  2. Ground Pound: The Creature will occasionally raise its arms and slam them down, creating a shockwave along the ground.
    • Dodge: To avoid this, simply jump over the shockwave. You can often get in an aerial attack on its head as you jump.
  3. Charge Attack: It will sometimes charge across the screen.
    • Dodge: Double-jump over it or use your backdash (L1/LB) to quickly move away. Be careful not to get cornered.
  4. Sub-Weapon Usage:
    • If using the Axe, throw it when the Creature is close and slightly above you to hit its head.
    • If using Holy Water, throw it directly in front of the Creature to create a damaging flame pillar it will walk into.
  5. Melee Attacks: Focus on jump attacks to its head. If you have a long-reaching weapon like the Bastard Sword, you might be able to get a few hits in on its body while on the ground, but prioritize the head.

Phase 2: Jumping Attacks (Low Health)

Once the Creature's health is significantly depleted (around 50% or less), it will start incorporating a jumping attack into its repertoire.

  1. Jumping Slam: The Creature will leap high into the air and attempt to slam down on your position.
    • Dodge: This attack is telegraphed. As soon as you see it prepare to jump, move quickly to the side. A well-timed backdash can get you out of the way.
    • Opportunity: While it's in the air, you can often get a free jump attack on its head as it descends, or throw an Axe.
  2. Maintain Pressure: Continue to focus on hitting its head. Don't get greedy with attacks; prioritize dodging its powerful slams and charges.
  3. Healing: If your health drops below 50%, use a Potion. It's better to heal proactively than to risk being one-shotted by a subsequent attack.

Post-Fight Rewards

Upon defeating the Creature, you will receive:

  • Experience Points: A good boost for your level.
  • Money: A decent amount of gold.
  • Relic: The Soul of Bat. This crucial relic allows Alucard to transform into a bat, granting flight and access to previously unreachable areas. This is essential for further exploration and progression in the castle.

After the battle, proceed to the left to find a save point and continue your journey through the Underground Caverns, now with the power of flight at your disposal!
