Starting Equipment & Stats
Alucard begins his journey into Dracula's Castle with a modest but functional set of gear. Understanding your initial loadout and stats is crucial for navigating the early challenges and making informed decisions about upgrades. While your starting equipment is basic, it provides a solid foundation for the trials ahead.
Initial Equipment
Upon gaining control of Alucard after the prologue, you will be equipped with the following items:
- Weapon: Short Sword
- A standard, one-handed sword. It offers decent attack power for the early game and has a quick swing speed. It's a reliable weapon until you find more powerful alternatives.
- Shield: Leather Shield
- This basic shield provides a small defense bonus and can block most projectile attacks when held up. While its defensive capabilities are limited, it's better than nothing. Remember to hold the attack button while not moving to raise your shield.
- Head Gear: None
- Alucard starts without any head protection. Keep an eye out for helmets or circlets that can boost your defense or provide other beneficial stats.
- Body Armor: Cloth Tunic
- A simple piece of clothing offering minimal defense. You'll want to replace this as soon as possible with more robust armor found within the castle.
- Cloak: Cloth Cloak
- Similar to the Tunic, this cloak provides no defensive benefits but is purely cosmetic. Cloaks later in the game can offer significant stat boosts.
- Accessory 1: None
- Accessory 2: None
Initial Stats
Alucard's base stats at the beginning of the game are well-rounded, reflecting his half-vampire, half-human heritage. These stats will increase as you level up and equip better gear.
- HP (Hit Points): Your total health. Taking damage reduces this, and it can be restored with potions or by resting.
- MP (Magic Points): Used for casting spells and activating certain special abilities. Regenerates slowly over time.
- Heart: Used for sub-weapons. Each sub-weapon use consumes a certain number of hearts.
- STR (Strength): Directly affects your physical attack power. Higher STR means more damage with weapons.
- CON (Constitution): Influences your physical defense. Higher CON reduces damage taken from physical attacks.
- INT (Intelligence): Boosts your magical attack power and the effectiveness of certain spells. Also affects the rate of MP regeneration.
- LCK (Luck): Affects the drop rate of items from enemies and the chance of finding rare items. A higher LCK stat is invaluable for farming.
Early Game Strategy & Upgrades
Your immediate goal should be to upgrade your equipment. While the Short Sword is serviceable, you'll quickly encounter enemies that demand better offensive and defensive capabilities.
- Weapon Upgrade: Look for the Broadsword early on. It's a significant upgrade in attack power over the Short Sword and can often be found as a drop from early enemies or in hidden areas within the Marble Gallery.
- Armor Upgrade: The Cuirass is an excellent early armor upgrade. It provides a substantial defense boost compared to the Cloth Tunic. Keep an eye out for it in the early castle areas.
- Shield Usage: Practice using your Leather Shield. While it won't block all damage, it can negate projectile attacks from enemies like Zombies and Flea Men, conserving your HP for tougher encounters.
- Sub-Weapons: Experiment with the various sub-weapons you find (Knife, Axe, Holy Water, Cross, Stopwatch). Each has its own utility, and mastering their use can turn the tide in battle. Remember to collect hearts to fuel them!
