This area immediately throws you into a vertical climb with numerous Flea Men. These small, agile enemies jump erratically and are difficult to hit with the whip. The Holy Water can be effective if they land on the ground, or the Axe if they jump above you. You'll also encounter Axe Armors, heavily armored knights who throw axes in an arc. They have high health and are best dealt with from a distance. The platforms here often move or are very small, requiring precise jumps. Medusa Heads are also abundant, making every jump a risk. Prioritize clearing the path ahead before making difficult jumps. A Triple Shot power-up can sometimes be found in a candle in this area, which is a game-changer for the rest of the stage and the upcoming boss.
