Ranking System and Rewards — Children of the Sun Guide

Understand the ranking system in Children of Mana: how kills, chests, and time affect your score and rewards.

At the end of every four zones in a main storyline mission, and again after defeating a boss, you'll receive a score based on your performance. These scores contribute to an overall ranking at the end of the level, which determines your rewards. Higher rankings yield better prizes.

Your ranking is determined by three factors:

  • Kills: The total number of enemies and bosses you defeated.
  • Chests: The number of treasure chests you discovered. This includes trap chests that you successfully disarm, but not those that explode. You don't need to collect the contents for it to count.
  • Time: The speed at which you complete the zones. This acts as a multiplier for your Kills and Chests scores, with a maximum multiplier of 3x. Completing levels quickly can compensate for not getting every kill or chest.

After receiving your rewards, you'll often have the option to choose a random item marked by '???'. While generally not the best choice, one specific Yellow Gem, 'Lore of Artificers,' can ONLY be obtained through this random selection. So, it might be worth trying occasionally.
