Navigating the Desert and Using the Bow

Navigate Fiery Sands of Jadd, use the Bow and Arrow, and overcome quicksand hazards in Children of Mana.

The Fiery Sands of Jadd features treacherous quicksand. Fast-moving quicksand can be crossed in a few ways:

  • Flail: Diagonally aim and latch onto a wall to pull yourself across. This works well for subquests but may not cover the full distance in main missions.
  • Virtue of Balance Gem: Equip this gem to walk on sand (and ice) normally. This is the most reliable method for easy traversal.
  • Focused Fury Sword Attack: Some sources suggest a focused Fury sword attack in diagonal can also get you past.

The Bow and Arrow is essential for this chapter, especially for the boss. Its basic attack fires a single arrow, while a focused attack charges a more powerful shot. Use the bow to hit enemies from a distance, especially those that are difficult to reach with melee weapons or are vulnerable to ranged attacks. Many enemies here are fire-based, so consider equipping water-elemental spirits if available. Gleamdrops might be hidden in sand dunes or inside cacti. Ensure you have a good bow equipped; the default bow from Moti is very weak. An Iron Bow is highly recommended, as it will significantly increase your damage output against the boss.
