The Path of Vengeance: Core Progression

Your journey through Children of the Sun is largely linear, with new missions and abilities unlocking as you complete preceding objectives. However, certain unlocks require more than just mission completion; they demand keen observation and environmental interaction.

  1. Initial Abilities:
    • Bullet Recall: Unlocked automatically after completing the tutorial mission, "First Blood." This is your foundational ability, allowing you to retrieve your bullet and reset your shot trajectory.
    • Bullet Control: Acquired upon successful completion of "The Serpent's Coil" (Mission 3). This ability grants you a limited degree of mid-air bullet manipulation, essential for navigating complex environments and hitting obscured targets.
  2. Weapon Upgrades:
    • High-Velocity Rounds: Found hidden within the "Smuggler's Den" (Mission 5). After eliminating the primary target, search the back office on the second floor. A locked safe (code: 731) contains the schematics. Delivering these to the Black Market Contact in the Hub unlocks High-Velocity Rounds, increasing bullet speed and penetration.
    • Silenced Barrel: Awarded for achieving an 'S' rank on "The Silent Auction" (Mission 7). This upgrade significantly reduces bullet noise, making stealthier approaches viable and minimizing enemy alert levels.
  3. Special Abilities:
    • Target Mark: Unlocked after interrogating the Informant in "Whispers in the Alley" (Mission 9). The Informant, located in the alleyway behind the "Crimson Lotus" club, will reveal the location of a hidden data chip containing the Target Mark protocols. This ability allows you to highlight enemies and environmental hazards, making planning more efficient.
    • Environmental Manipulation: This powerful ability, allowing you to interact with specific environmental elements (e.g., exploding barrels, collapsing structures), is not a direct unlock. Instead, it's learned through observation. Successfully using environmental hazards in three distinct missions (e.g., exploding a generator in "Power Play," collapsing a scaffold in "Rooftop Rendezvous," or triggering a car alarm in "Urban Decay") will automatically grant you the full Environmental Manipulation suite.

Hidden Secrets and Collectibles

Beyond the main progression, Children of the Sun features several collectibles that offer lore insights, cosmetic customizations, and even minor gameplay advantages.

Lore Fragments

Scattered throughout each mission are Lore Fragments, small data chips that piece together the backstory of the Syndicate and your mysterious past. Collecting all fragments in a given chapter unlocks a unique cinematic sequence detailing a specific aspect of the game's narrative.

  • Example Location: In "The Ironclad Gauntlet" (Mission 4), a Lore Fragment is hidden behind a destructible wall on the ground floor, accessible only after using a heavy-caliber weapon to breach the weak point.

Cosmetic Skins

New cosmetic skins for your character and bullet trail can be unlocked through various means:

  • Challenge Completion: Achieving specific challenge objectives (e.g., "No Witnesses" - complete a mission without alerting a single enemy; "Headshot Streak" - land 10 consecutive headshots) often rewards unique skins. Check the "Challenges" tab in the main menu for details.
  • Secret Areas: Some missions contain well-hidden secret areas that, when discovered, grant access to exclusive skins. For instance, in "The Forgotten Archive" (Mission 11), a hidden ventilation shaft leads to a chamber containing the "Shadow Weaver" outfit.
  • Mastery Rewards: Earning an 'S+' rank on all missions within a chapter unlocks a prestigious "Master Assassin" skin for that chapter.

The Black Market: Your Source for Enhancements

The Black Market, accessible from the main Hub area, is where you'll spend your accumulated currency (obtained from mission completion and bonus objectives) on various enhancements.

Available Enhancements:

  • Bullet Trajectory Predictor: A crucial upgrade that shows a faint line indicating your bullet's path, even through obstacles. Essential for advanced planning. Cost: 5,000 Credits.
  • Extended Bullet Control Duration: Increases the window of time you have to manipulate your bullet mid-flight. Cost: 3,500 Credits per tier (max 3 tiers).
  • Enemy Highlight Module: Permanently highlights enemies, even through walls, within a certain radius. Cost: 4,000 Credits.
  • Quick Reload Mechanism: Reduces the cooldown on your Bullet Recall ability. Cost: 2,800 Credits.

Prioritize enhancements that complement your playstyle. If you favor stealth, the Silenced Barrel and Enemy Highlight Module are invaluable. For those who enjoy complex trick shots, Extended Bullet Control Duration and the Bullet Trajectory Predictor will be your best friends.
