As characters participate in battles, they earn Experience Points (EXP). Accumulating enough EXP causes a character to 'level up,' which is the primary method of increasing their core attributes. These attributes include Hit Points (HP), Magic Points (MP), Attack Power (ATK), Defense (DEF), Speed (SPD), and Magic Defense (M.DEF).

The leveling process involves:

  • Gaining Experience Points (EXP): Every enemy defeated in battle awards a certain amount of EXP to the party members who participated.
  • Leveling Up: When a character's EXP reaches a certain threshold, they will level up. This is often accompanied by a brief animation and a stat boost.
  • Stat Increases: Each level-up grants a random increase to a character's stats. While there's an element of randomness, characters generally have growth patterns that favor their specific roles (e.g., Crono has balanced stats, while Frog excels in physical attacks).
