Chrono Trigger features a streamlined inventory system designed to be user-friendly. Players have a limited capacity for certain types of items, which necessitates strategic decision-making about what to keep and what to discard or sell. This system encourages players to prioritize their needs based on their current location and upcoming challenges.

Key aspects of item storage and capacity:

  • Key Items: These are essential for progressing the story or completing side quests and typically do not take up inventory space. They are stored in a separate, unlimited section.
  • Consumables: Items like Potions, Ethers, and status-curing items are stored in a dedicated section with a limited capacity. Players usually have a limit of 99 for most consumable items.
  • Equipment: Weapons, armor, helmets, and accessories are managed separately from consumables and key items. Each character has specific slots for these items, and they do not count against the general item capacity.
  • Sellable Items: Various materials and miscellaneous items can be sold to shops for gold. These also have a capacity limit, typically 99.
