Guardia Castle & The Trial
Guardia Castle is the seat of power for the Kingdom of Guardia in 1000 AD and plays a pivotal role in the early stages of Chrono Trigger. It's here that Crono lives and where a significant trial will test the kingdom's justice and Crono's resolve.
Upon returning to Guardia Castle after the Millennial Fair incident, Crono finds himself in a dire situation. Marle, who has been revealed to be Princess Nadia, is accused of treason for attempting to sell the royal pendant, a family heirloom. This accusation is a setup orchestrated by the Chancellor, who has sinister plans.
The Trial:
- Crono is summoned to the castle's courtroom to witness Marle's trial.
- During the trial, the Chancellor presents fabricated evidence and testimony, painting Marle as a traitor.
- Despite Crono's presence and the pleas of others, the court finds Marle guilty.
- As a consequence of her supposed treason, Marle is sentenced to be executed.
Rescuing Marle:
- Following Marle's sentencing, Crono, with the help of Lucca, must embark on a daring rescue mission into Guardia Castle's dungeons.
- This section involves navigating through the castle's prison levels, overcoming guards, and solving minor environmental puzzles to reach Marle before her execution.
- The rescue is a critical turning point, as it solidifies Crono and Lucca's bond and sets them on a path that will inevitably lead them to discover the existence of time travel and the looming threat of Lavos.
The events surrounding Guardia Castle and the Queen's Trial are instrumental in driving the plot forward, establishing the stakes, and introducing the concept of injustice and the need for heroes to intervene. It's a dramatic sequence that highlights the consequences of political corruption and the courage of those who stand against it.
