The Final Battle & Lavos's Core
The ultimate confrontation with Lavos awaits, a multi-phased battle that tests your party's strength and strategic prowess. To achieve the coveted Good Ending, the Chrono Cross is an indispensable artifact. Ensure it's equipped on Serge and prepare for a unique sequence of elemental attacks to overcome the final boss.
The final battle against Lavos is a multi-stage encounter that culminates in a confrontation with its true form. To unlock the Good Ending, a specific sequence of actions is required. First, ensure Serge has the Chrono Cross equipped to his Element Grid. During the battle, the party must defend until they have accumulated sufficient 'stamina' – at least 2 points for most characters and 3 for Serge. This allows for the execution of the critical sequence.
The key to victory lies in the precise use of elemental magic. The following color sequence must be employed in order: Yellow, Red, Green, Blue, Black, and finally White. It is the color of the Element that matters, not the specific spell itself. Low-level Elements are recommended to conserve resources. The game will display the most recently used Elements at the top of the screen, aiding in tracking the sequence.
Once the White Element has been cast, immediately use the Chrono Cross. This powerful artifact will instantly defeat Lavos, regardless of its remaining HP, and usher in the Good Ending. After completing the game, the Chrono Cross can be used in New Game Plus or Continue Plus to recruit characters from previous playthroughs. However, the Chrono Cross itself does not carry over, necessitating its reacquisition by returning to Chronopolis.
