Resource Collectors and Storages
Understanding and optimizing your resource collectors and storages is fundamental to your success in Clash of Clans. These buildings are the lifeblood of your village, providing the Gold, Elixir, and later Dark Elixir, necessary for upgrading buildings, training troops, and researching new technologies. A well-managed resource economy ensures continuous progress, even when you're not actively raiding.
Gold and Elixir Collectors
Your primary sources of passive income are the Gold Mines and Elixir Collectors. These structures generate resources over time, even when you're offline. Maximizing their output is crucial, especially in the early game.
- Placement Strategy: While it might seem intuitive to place collectors outside your walls for easy access, this makes them prime targets for enemy raiders looking for easy loot. For optimal defense, especially as you progress, integrate your collectors within your base's defensive perimeter. This forces attackers to break through your defenses to reach your resources, often costing them more troops than the loot is worth.
- Upgrade Priority: Always prioritize upgrading your Gold Mines and Elixir Collectors. Higher levels mean faster resource generation and increased storage capacity within the collector itself. This reduces the frequency you need to collect resources and increases your passive income per hour.
- Collection Frequency: Resources stored in collectors are vulnerable. Make it a habit to collect your resources regularly. A full collector is a wasted collector, as it stops generating resources until emptied.
- Early Game Focus: In the initial stages, when your Town Hall is low level (e.g., Town Hall 1-3), your collectors will be a significant portion of your income. Focus on getting them to maximum level for your current Town Hall before heavily investing in other structures. This provides a steady base for future upgrades.
Resource Storages
Gold Storages and Elixir Storages are where your collected resources are kept safe. These buildings are critical for holding the large sums of resources needed for major upgrades.
- Capacity is Key: Upgrading your storages increases the maximum amount of Gold and Elixir you can hold. This is essential for undertaking expensive upgrades to your Town Hall, defenses, or laboratory. Always ensure your storage capacity is sufficient for your next planned major upgrade.
- Defensive Placement: Unlike collectors, storages should always be placed deep within your base, protected by multiple layers of walls and defensive structures. Storages hold a significant percentage of your total resources, making them high-value targets for attackers. A well-protected storage can deter raiders or at least ensure they don't get away with all your hard-earned loot.
- Spreading Out Storages: As you acquire more storages (you can build multiple of each type), spread them out within your base. Don't put all your Gold Storages in one corner, for example. This prevents an attacker from destroying a single section of your base and taking all your resources at once. If they have to break through multiple areas to get to all your storages, they'll likely run out of troops or time.
- Shielding Strategy: When you have a large amount of resources and are about to log off, consider if you have enough resources to start a major upgrade. Starting an upgrade will move those resources out of your storages and into the building being upgraded, making them safe from raids. If you can't start an upgrade, ensure your base layout is as strong as possible to protect your loot.
Dark Elixir Drills and Storage
Once you reach Town Hall 7, you unlock the powerful Dark Elixir Drill and Dark Elixir Storage. Dark Elixir is a premium resource used for training Dark Troops, upgrading heroes, and researching powerful spells.
- High Priority Target: Dark Elixir is incredibly valuable, making its drill and storage prime targets for attackers. Treat your Dark Elixir Storage with the utmost defensive priority, placing it at the absolute center of your base, surrounded by your strongest defenses.
- Drill Upgrades: Similar to Gold Mines and Elixir Collectors, upgrade your Dark Elixir Drills as soon as possible. The passive income from these drills becomes increasingly important as Dark Elixir costs for heroes and troops rise.
- Collection and Protection: Just like other resources, collect Dark Elixir from your drills regularly. Due to its high value, any Dark Elixir sitting in a drill is a tempting target for raiders.
By diligently upgrading your collectors and strategically placing your storages, you'll establish a robust economic foundation that will propel your village through the ranks of Clash of Clans.
