Builder Huts and Builders

In Clash of Clans, your progress is intrinsically linked to your Builders. These diligent workers are responsible for constructing new buildings, upgrading existing structures, and clearing obstacles from your village. Understanding how to manage your Builders effectively is paramount to rapid base development and overall success.

Understanding Builder Huts

Builder Huts are the homes for your Builders. Each hut houses one Builder, and you can only have as many active construction projects simultaneously as you have Builder Huts. This makes acquiring additional Builder Huts a top priority for any ambitious Chief.

Acquiring Your First Builder Huts

  1. Initial Builder Hut: You start the game with one Builder Hut already placed in your village. This allows you to immediately begin your first construction project, typically the Gold Storage or Elixir Collector, as part of the tutorial.
  2. Second Builder Hut: The second Builder Hut is unlocked very early in the game. You can purchase it for 250 Gems from the Shop. We strongly recommend saving your initial Gems from achievements and obstacle clearing to acquire this as quickly as possible.

Strategizing for More Builders

The maximum number of Builder Huts you can have is five. Each additional hut beyond the second becomes progressively more expensive in terms of Gems. This is where strategic Gem management comes into play.

  • Third Builder Hut: Costs 500 Gems. This is a significant investment but dramatically speeds up your progress.
  • Fourth Builder Hut: Costs 1000 Gems. This is often considered the sweet spot for most players, providing ample construction capacity without an exorbitant Gem cost.
  • Fifth Builder Hut: Costs 2000 Gems. While beneficial, many players find that four Builders are sufficient for steady progress, especially if they are active in the game. The fifth Builder is a luxury that can be pursued after other crucial Gem expenditures.

Maximizing Builder Efficiency

Having multiple Builders is only half the battle; using them efficiently is key to climbing the Town Hall ranks quickly.

Prioritizing Construction Projects

Always aim to have your Builders busy. Idle Builders mean wasted time and slower progress. When deciding what to upgrade, consider the following:

  • Resource Production: Early on, prioritize upgrading your Gold Mines and Elixir Collectors to increase your passive income.
  • Storage Capacity: Upgrade Gold Storages and Elixir Storages to hold more resources, allowing you to save for larger, more expensive upgrades.
  • Defenses: Keep your defenses, such as Cannons, Archer Towers, and Mortars, upgraded to protect your resources from enemy raids.
  • Offensive Buildings: Upgrade your Barracks to unlock new troops and your Laboratory to research stronger troop levels.
  • Town Hall: While tempting to rush, upgrading your Town Hall too quickly can leave your defenses and troops under-leveled, making you an easy target. Ensure your key offensive and defensive structures are adequately upgraded before advancing your Town Hall.

The Builder Base and Master Builder

Don't forget about the Builder Base! Once you unlock the Builder Base (accessible via the boat on your Home Village map), you'll gain access to the Master Builder. The Master Builder can eventually travel between your Home Village and Builder Base, effectively giving you a sixth Builder for your Home Village once certain conditions are met. This is a long-term goal but a powerful boost to your construction capabilities.

To unlock the Master Builder's ability to travel to your Home Village, you must:

  1. Upgrade your Builder Hall to Level 9.
  2. Construct and fully upgrade the O.T.T.O Hut in the Builder Base. This requires several specific upgrades within the Builder Base, including a Level 9 Cannon Cart, Mega Tesla, and Battle Machine.

Gem Management for Builders

Since Gems are the primary currency for acquiring additional Builder Huts, careful management is crucial.

  • Clear Obstacles: Regularly clear trees, rocks, and bushes from your village. Each obstacle cleared grants a small amount of Gems.
  • Complete Achievements: Check the "Achievements" tab (accessible via the star icon on the left side of your screen) for various tasks that reward Gems upon completion.
  • Gem Mine (Builder Base): In the Builder Base, you can build and upgrade a Gem Mine, which passively generates Gems over time.
  • Clan Games and Events: Participate in Clan Games and other in-game events, as these often offer Gems as rewards.
  • Avoid Unnecessary Gem Spending: Resist the urge to use Gems to instantly finish upgrades or buy resources. These are temporary conveniences that hinder your long-term goal of acquiring more Builders.

By following these strategies, you'll ensure your Builders are always hard at work, propelling your village to new heights of power and prosperity!
