Troop Housing and Army Camps
Mastering your troop housing and Army Camps is fundamental to building a formidable army in Clash of Clans. These structures dictate the size and composition of your attacking force, directly impacting your success in raids and clan wars. Understanding how to effectively build, upgrade, and utilize them is crucial for every Chief.
Understanding Army Camps
Army Camps are the primary structures responsible for housing your trained troops, ready for deployment in battle. The more Army Camps you have, and the higher their level, the larger your total army capacity will be. This directly translates to more powerful attacks.
- Location Strategy: While Army Camps don't directly defend your base, their placement can subtly influence attacker pathing. Consider placing them slightly outside your main defensive core but within the range of some defensive structures to deter easy destruction by stray troops. However, their primary purpose is capacity, so don't sacrifice capacity for defensive placement.
- Upgrade Priority: Upgrading your Army Camps should be a top priority at every Town Hall level. Each upgrade significantly increases your troop capacity, allowing you to bring more powerful armies to battle.
- Early Game (TH1-TH5): Focus on building all available Army Camps as soon as they unlock and upgrading them concurrently with your Barracks. More troops mean easier farming and faster progression.
- Mid Game (TH6-TH9): Continue to prioritize Army Camp upgrades. The increased capacity is essential for more complex army compositions like Giant-Wizard or Hog Rider attacks.
- Late Game (TH10+): While still important, the impact of each individual Army Camp upgrade might feel less dramatic compared to earlier stages. However, every 5-10 housing space gained can be the difference between a 2-star and a 3-star attack, especially with higher-cost troops.
- Maximum Capacity: Each Town Hall level unlocks the ability to build and upgrade a certain number of Army Camps to a specific level. Always strive to reach the maximum capacity for your current Town Hall to maximize your offensive potential.
Barracks and Dark Barracks: Troop Production
While Army Camps house your troops, the Barracks and Dark Barracks are where they are actually trained. These structures are intrinsically linked to your Army Camp capacity.
- Barracks (Elixir Troops):
- Unlocking Troops: Each Barracks upgrade unlocks new Elixir-based troops, from Barbarians and Archers to Dragons and Electro Dragons.
- Training Speed: Having multiple Barracks allows you to train troops simultaneously, significantly reducing overall training time. As you progress, you'll want to build all available Barracks.
- Upgrade Path: Prioritize upgrading Barracks that unlock key troops for your current attacking strategies. For example, upgrading to unlock Dragons at TH7 is often a game-changer.
- Dark Barracks (Dark Elixir Troops):
- Unlocking Troops: Similar to regular Barracks, Dark Barracks upgrades unlock powerful Dark Elixir troops like Minions, Golems, and Witches.
- Training Speed: Just like regular Barracks, multiple Dark Barracks (you can build up to two) speed up Dark Elixir troop training.
- Resource Management: Dark Elixir is a precious resource. Plan your Dark Barracks upgrades carefully, often coinciding with when you have a surplus of Dark Elixir or when a new powerful Dark Elixir troop becomes essential for your attack strategy.
Strategic Considerations for Troop Training
Efficient troop training is key to consistent raiding and war performance.
- Pre-Train Armies: Always have an army queued up in your Barracks and Dark Barracks, even if your Army Camps are full. Once you deploy your current army, the queued troops will automatically move into your Army Camps, minimizing downtime.
- Boost Training: For intense farming sessions or crucial war attacks, consider using Gems to boost your Barracks and Dark Barracks. This dramatically speeds up troop production for a limited time.
- Army Composition Flexibility: Don't get stuck on one army composition. Experiment with different troop combinations based on the base you're attacking and the resources you have available. Your Army Camps provide the space; your Barracks provide the options.
- Spell Factory and Siege Workshop: Remember that your Army Camps only house troops. Spells are produced in the Spell Factory and Dark Spell Factory, and Siege Machines are built in the Siege Workshop. These structures have their own capacities and training times, which must be considered when planning your full attack strategy.
