Root Rider Strategies
The Root Rider is a powerful, high-hitpoint troop capable of clearing paths through even the most fortified bases. Her unique ability to create temporary paths through walls makes her an invaluable asset for funneling and direct assaults. Mastering her deployment and support is key to achieving consistent 3-star attacks.
Core Concepts & Troop Composition
The Root Rider excels when paired with troops that can capitalize on the paths she creates. Consider these foundational elements:
- Tanking & Pathing: The Root Rider's primary role is to tank damage and open up the base. Her ability to bypass walls directly targets key defenses.
- Damage Dealers: Follow up with high-damage troops like Grand Warden, Wizards, Witches, or even Super Bowlers. These troops will pour through the openings created by the Root Riders.
- Heal Support: Due to their high hitpoints, Root Riders benefit immensely from Healers, especially when facing concentrated defensive fire.
- Spell Synergy: Rage Spells are crucial for accelerating their wall-breaking and damage output. Jump Spells can be redundant if Root Riders are deployed effectively, but can offer alternative pathing if needed. Freeze Spells are excellent for neutralizing high-threat defenses like Inferno Towers or Scattershots.
Deployment Techniques
Effective Root Rider deployment is all about creating a clear, devastating path to the Town Hall and other critical defenses.
1. The "Wall-Breaker" Lead
This strategy focuses on using Root Riders to create an initial breach, allowing your main army to stream in.
- Identify Entry Point: Scout the base for a section with high-value targets (e.g., Town Hall, Eagle Artillery, multiple Inferno Towers) behind a thick layer of walls.
- Initial Funnel: Deploy a few Wizards or Baby Dragons on the flanks to create a narrow funnel, ensuring your Root Riders don't stray.
- Root Rider Drop: Deploy 2-4 Root Riders in a line, directly targeting the desired wall section. Their ability will activate, creating a temporary path.
- Support Troops: Immediately follow with your main damage-dealing army (e.g., Golems, Witches, Super Bowlers, Grand Warden).
- Spell Support: Drop a Rage Spell as the Root Riders and main army enter the base, especially over the initial wall breach and any concentrated defenses. A Heal Spell can be used if they take heavy damage from splash defenses.
2. The "Flanking Maneuver"
This technique uses Root Riders to bypass a heavily defended central core by attacking from the sides.
- Divide and Conquer: Identify two distinct sections of the base that can be attacked simultaneously.
- Flank Deployment: Deploy 2-3 Root Riders on each flank, aiming for defenses that are further inside the base but still accessible by their wall-breaking ability.
- Support on Flanks: Pair each group of Root Riders with a few Wizards or a Witch to clear outside buildings and provide additional damage.
- Central Push (Optional): While the flanks are active, you can launch a smaller, more focused attack down the middle with a different troop composition, or simply let the Root Riders converge.
- Strategic Spells: Use Freeze Spells on key defenses that threaten the Root Riders on the flanks, and Rage Spells to accelerate their progress.
3. The "Queen Charge Root Rider"
Combine the power of the Archer Queen with the pathing of the Root Riders for a devastating attack.
- Queen Charge Setup: Begin with a standard Queen Charge on one side of the base, using Healers to keep her alive and Rage Spells to help her clear initial defenses and create a funnel.
- Root Rider Entry: Once the Archer Queen has cleared a significant portion of the outer layer, deploy a group of 3-5 Root Riders from a different angle, aiming to meet up with the Queen or to open a path to the Town Hall.
- Convergence Point: Ideally, the Root Riders will open a path that allows the Archer Queen to access the base's core, or they will clear a path for other troops to follow the Queen.
- Grand Warden Ability: Save the Grand Warden's Eternal Tome ability for when the combined force of the Queen and Root Riders are under heavy fire, especially near the Town Hall or Eagle Artillery.
- Poison/Freeze: Use a Poison Spell for Clan Castle troops and Freeze Spells to protect the Queen and Root Riders from high-damage defenses.
Advanced Tips & Considerations
- Clan Castle Lure: Always consider luring and eliminating the Clan Castle troops before committing your main Root Rider push, as they can quickly distract and overwhelm your troops.
- Hero Synergies: The Grand Warden's Eternal Tome is invaluable for protecting Root Riders during critical moments. The Royal Champion can follow Root Riders to snipe defenses.
- Air Defenses: If using Healers with Root Riders, be mindful of Air Defenses. Consider using a few Balloons or Lava Hounds to tank for the Healers if necessary.
- Spring Traps: Root Riders are immune to Spring Traps, making them excellent for triggering these defenses without being affected.
- Wall Breaker Alternative: While Root Riders bypass walls, a few Wall Breakers or a Battle Blimp can be used to create an initial opening for other troops if you want to save the Root Rider's ability for deeper wall sections.
By understanding these strategies and practicing their execution, you'll be well on your way to dominating bases with the mighty Root Rider!
