Card Levels and Stats
Understanding card levels and their impact on statistics is fundamental to success in Clash Royale. Every card in your collection, from common troops to legendary spells, can be upgraded, significantly boosting its effectiveness in battle. This section will guide you through the mechanics of card leveling and how to strategically improve your deck.
How Card Levels Work
Each card type (Common, Rare, Epic, Legendary, Champion) has a different maximum level, but all cards scale in power with each upgrade. When you upgrade a card, its core statistics increase, making it stronger, faster, or more resilient. These stats include:
- Hitpoints (HP): Determines how much damage a troop or building can take before being destroyed. Higher HP means your units survive longer.
- Damage: The amount of damage a troop or spell deals per hit or per use. Increased damage allows you to take down enemy units and towers more quickly.
- Damage Per Second (DPS): For troops that attack continuously, this stat indicates their sustained damage output.
- Tower Damage: Specifically for spells, this indicates the damage dealt directly to Crown Towers.
The Upgrade Process: Step-by-Step
To upgrade a card, you'll need two key resources: duplicate cards and Gold. Here's how to do it:
- Collect Duplicate Cards: You acquire duplicate cards primarily through opening various Chests (Silver Chests, Gold Chests, Magical Chests, Legendary Chests, etc.) earned from battles or purchased from the Shop. You can also receive cards from Daily Quests and special event challenges.
- Access Your Card Collection: From the main game screen, tap on the "Cards" tab at the bottom to view your entire collection.
- Select a Card to Upgrade: Cards that are ready for an upgrade will have a green "Upgrade" button and a glowing indicator. Tap on the card you wish to improve.
- Review Upgrade Costs: The card's information screen will display the required number of duplicate cards and the Gold cost for the next level. It will also show the stat increases you'll gain.
- Confirm Upgrade: If you have enough duplicates and Gold, tap the "Upgrade" button to complete the process.
Strategic Upgrade Tips
- Focus on Your Main Deck: Prioritize upgrading the 8 cards you consistently use in your primary battle deck. A well-leveled main deck will yield the most immediate results in ladder play.
- Balance Your Upgrades: Don't just focus on one card. Try to keep all cards in your main deck at a comparable level to maintain a balanced power curve. For instance, having a Level 13 Hog Rider but Level 9 supporting cards will often lead to inconsistent performance.
- Consider Card Rarity: Legendary and Champion cards are harder to obtain duplicates for, making them more challenging to level up quickly. Common and Rare cards are generally easier to max out.
- Gold Management: Gold is a precious resource. While you'll earn Gold from Chests, Daily Quests, and winning battles, it's often the limiting factor for upgrades. Be mindful of your spending and avoid upgrading cards you rarely use.
- Star Levels: Once a card reaches its maximum level (Level 14), you can unlock Star Levels using Star Points. These are purely cosmetic upgrades that change the appearance of your cards and troops in battle, offering no statistical advantage. Star Points are earned by upgrading cards past certain levels or by donating max-level cards.
Mastering card levels and understanding their statistical impact is crucial for climbing the Trophy Road and dominating the Arenas. Keep collecting, keep upgrading, and keep clashing!
