Customization Options
While Clash Royale is primarily a strategic card-battler, the game offers several ways for players to personalize their in-game experience and express their unique style. These customization options range from cosmetic changes to functional adjustments that can impact your gameplay. Understanding how to access and utilize these features can enhance your overall enjoyment and even provide a psychological edge in battles.
Emotes: Express Yourself on the Battlefield
Emotes are animated images that allow players to communicate with their opponents (and teammates in 2v2 battles) during a match. They are a core part of the Clash Royale experience, enabling you to celebrate victories, lament losses, or even try to psych out your adversary.
Accessing and Equipping Emotes
- From the main game screen, tap on your Player Profile icon in the top left corner.
- In your profile, navigate to the Emotes tab. This will display all the emotes you currently own.
- To equip an emote, drag and drop it from your collection into one of the eight available slots in your active emote deck. You can customize this deck to suit your preferred communication style.
- Once equipped, these emotes will be available for use during battles by tapping the emote icon above your card hand.
Acquiring New Emotes
- Shop Offers: Emotes frequently appear in the in-game shop, often bundled with other items like Gold or Gems. Keep an eye on the daily deals for new additions.
- Pass Royale: Purchasing and progressing through the Pass Royale often unlocks exclusive emotes that are only available during that season. These are typically highly sought after.
- Special Challenges & Tournaments: Participating in and completing certain challenges or tournaments can reward you with unique emotes. Check the challenge details for potential emote prizes.
- Global Tournaments: Achieving high ranks in Global Tournaments can sometimes grant exclusive emotes as rewards.
- Emote Shop: Occasionally, a dedicated Emote Shop will appear, offering a wider selection of emotes for purchase with Gems.
Emote Etiquette & Strategy
While emotes are for fun, they can also be used strategically. A well-timed "Good Game!" can be sportsmanlike, while a flurry of "Crying King" emotes might be seen as taunting. Be mindful of how your emotes are perceived, as some players mute emotes entirely.
Tower Skins: Change Your Arena's Appearance
Tower Skins are cosmetic alterations that change the appearance of your King's Tower and Princess Towers during battles. These skins do not provide any in-game advantage but offer a fantastic way to personalize your arena and showcase your achievements or favorite themes.
Applying Tower Skins
- From the main game screen, tap on your Player Profile icon.
- Navigate to the Tower Skins tab. Here you will see all the Tower Skins you have unlocked.
- Tap on the Tower Skin you wish to use, then tap the "Equip" button. The selected skin will now be active for all your battles.
Obtaining Tower Skins
- Pass Royale: Similar to emotes, Tower Skins are a premium reward for purchasing and progressing through the Pass Royale. Each season typically features a unique Tower Skin.
- Shop Offers: Occasionally, Tower Skins can be purchased directly from the shop using Gems or real money. These are often themed around holidays or special events.
- Special Events & Challenges: Very rarely, Supercell might offer Tower Skins as rewards for completing specific in-game events or challenges.
Battle Banners: Your Personal Calling Card
Battle Banners are a newer customization feature that allows you to create a unique display shown at the beginning of each battle, showcasing your personal style and achievements. They consist of a Banner Frame, a Banner Background, and up to three Badges.
Customizing Your Battle Banner
- From the main game screen, tap on your Player Profile icon.
- Select the Banner tab.
- Banner Frame: Tap on the "Frame" section to browse and select from your unlocked Banner Frames.
- Banner Background: Tap on the "Background" section to choose a suitable background for your banner.
- Badges: Tap on the "Badges" section. You can equip up to three badges simultaneously. Badges are earned through various in-game accomplishments, such as reaching certain trophy milestones, winning challenges, or participating in special events.
- Once you've made your selections, tap "Equip" to save your custom banner.
Earning Banner Components
- Banner Frames & Backgrounds: These are primarily acquired through the Pass Royale, special Shop Offers, and sometimes as rewards from Challenges or Global Tournaments.
- Badges: Badges are earned by completing specific in-game achievements. Examples include:
- Achieving certain King Tower levels.
- Reaching specific trophy counts in Ladder.
- Winning a certain number of battles in various game modes (e.g., 12-win Classic Challenges, Grand Challenges).
- Participating in Clan Wars.
- Collecting specific numbers of cards.
Deck Slots: Organize Your Strategies
While not a cosmetic customization, managing your deck slots is crucial for strategic customization. Clash Royale allows you to save multiple battle decks, enabling you to quickly switch between different strategies for Ladder, Clan Wars, Challenges, or friendly battles.
Managing Your Deck Slots
- From the main game screen, navigate to the Cards tab.
- At the top of the screen, you will see your current active deck and arrows to cycle through your available deck slots.
- To create a new deck, select an empty slot or an existing deck you wish to modify.
- Drag and drop cards from your collection into the eight slots to build your desired deck.
- The game automatically saves changes to your currently active deck slot.
Unlocking More Deck Slots
Players start with a limited number of deck slots. More slots can be unlocked typically by reaching higher King Tower levels or by purchasing them with Gems from the shop. Having more deck slots is highly recommended for competitive players who need to adapt their strategies frequently.
