Factions & Reputation
In the expansive world of CloverPit, your interactions with various factions are paramount to your success. Building a strong reputation with key groups unlocks exclusive quests, powerful gear, and crucial story progression. Conversely, a poor reputation can lead to hostile encounters and missed opportunities. This section will guide you through navigating the intricate web of alliances and animosities.

Understanding Reputation Levels
Your standing with each faction is tracked through a numerical reputation score, visible in your character's journal under the "Alliances" tab. This score ranges from -100 (Hostile) to +100 (Revered). Key thresholds include:
- -100 to -50: Hostile. Members will attack on sight.
- -49 to -10: Distrusted. Merchants refuse to trade, guards are suspicious.
- -9 to +9: Neutral. Standard interactions.
- +10 to +49: Friendly. Access to basic faction quests and discounted goods.
- +50 to +99: Allied. Advanced quests, unique items, and faction-specific perks.
- +100: Revered. The highest honor, often granting a permanent faction bonus or a powerful artifact.
The Major Factions of CloverPit
There are three primary factions that will significantly impact your playthrough:
The Sunstone Collective
Location: Primarily based in the bustling trade hub of Aethelburg, with smaller outposts in the Whispering Wastes.
Ideals: Focused on knowledge, trade, and the preservation of ancient artifacts. They value diplomacy and intellectual pursuits.
How to Gain Reputation:
- "The Scholar's Debt" Quest: Speak with Archivist Elara in the Aethelburg Grand Library. She requires you to retrieve the "Codex of the Forgotten Stars" from the Sunken Archives beneath the Crimson Mire. Be wary of the Mire Lurkers. Delivering the Codex grants +15 reputation.
- Artifact Donations: Any unique artifact found in ancient ruins (e.g., Glimmering Shard from the Emberfall Crypts, Sky-Iron Ingot from the Cloudspire Peaks) can be donated to Curator Theron in the Aethelburg Museum for +5 reputation per artifact.
- Trade Route Protection: Periodically, Merchant Guildmaster Borin in Aethelburg will offer quests to clear bandit camps along the Silverwood Pass. Completing these grants +10 reputation and a substantial gold reward.
Reputation Rewards:
- Friendly (+10): Access to the Sunstone Collective's unique vendor, selling rare crafting materials like Aetherweave Cloth and Refined Sunstone Dust.
- Allied (+50): Unlocks the quest "The Oracle's Vision", leading to the powerful Amulet of Foresight. Also grants a 10% discount at all Aethelburg merchants.
- Revered (+100): You are granted the title of "Sunstone Luminary" and receive the Staff of Celestial Guidance, a legendary magical weapon.
The Shadowfen Syndicate
Location: Operates from the hidden enclaves within the Blackwood Forest and the subterranean city of Gloomhaven.
Ideals: A clandestine organization focused on information, subterfuge, and maintaining a delicate balance of power. They value discretion and cunning.
How to Gain Reputation:
- "Whispers in the Dark" Quest: Seek out Silas "The Whisper" Thorne in the back alleys of Gloomhaven. He requires you to steal the "Ledger of the Iron Hand" from the heavily guarded Iron Hand Garrison in Aethelburg. This is a stealth-focused mission. Success grants +20 reputation.
- Eliminating Rivals: Enforcer Kael in the Blackwood Forest will occasionally task you with eliminating specific targets from rival factions (e.g., a high-ranking Sunstone Collective diplomat). Each successful assassination grants +10 reputation. Be warned, this will negatively impact your reputation with the targeted faction.
- Information Brokerage: Deliver any sensitive documents or coded messages you find (e.g., Encrypted Dispatch from defeated bandits, Smuggler's Manifest from coastal caves) to The Faceless One in Gloomhaven for +7 reputation per item.
Reputation Rewards:
- Friendly (+10): Access to the Syndicate's black market vendor, offering rare poisons, lockpicking tools (e.g., Master Skeleton Key), and stealth-enhancing gear.
- Allied (+50): Unlocks the quest "The Serpent's Coil", leading to the potent Shadow-Woven Cloak. Also grants immunity to minor bounties in Gloomhaven.
- Revered (+100): You are granted the title of "Shadow Weaver" and receive the Daggers of Silent Death, a pair of legendary rogue weapons.
The Ironclad Legion
Location: Their formidable fortresses dominate the Barren Peaks and the strategic choke points of the Stonefang Mountains.
Ideals: A militaristic and disciplined force dedicated to order, strength, and protecting the common folk from monstrous threats. They value courage and martial prowess.
How to Gain Reputation:
- "The Beast of Stonefang" Quest: Report to Commander Valerius at Fort Ironhold in the Barren Peaks. He requires you to hunt down and slay the legendary Gorefang Wyvern that terrorizes the mountains. This is a challenging combat encounter. Success grants +25 reputation.
- Monster Hunting Bounties: Sergeant Roric at any Legion outpost will offer bounties for various monstrous creatures (e.g., Cave Trolls in the Deep Caverns, Frost Giants in the Glacial Wastes). Each completed bounty grants +8 reputation.
- Reinforcing Defenses: Donate raw materials like Iron Ore (mined from the Stonefang Mountains) or Hardened Timber (harvested from the Verdant Valley) to the Quartermaster at Fort Ironhold. Every 50 units of a single material grants +5 reputation.
Reputation Rewards:
- Friendly (+10): Access to the Legion's armory, selling high-quality plate armor (e.g., Ironclad Cuirass) and robust weaponry.
- Allied (+50): Unlocks the quest "The Siege of Stonefang", leading to the impenetrable Shield of the Stalwart. Also grants a 10% reduction in repair costs for armor and weapons.
- Revered (+100): You are granted the title of "Legionnaire Commander" and receive the Greatsword of the Oathbound, a legendary two-handed weapon.
Managing Faction Conflicts
Be aware that actions benefiting one faction can often displease another. For example, completing a Shadowfen Syndicate assassination quest against a Sunstone Collective diplomat will likely result in a -10 reputation penalty with the Sunstone Collective. Plan your allegiances carefully, or strive for a balanced approach by completing quests for all factions, albeit at a slower pace for each.
It is possible to recover negative reputation, but it often requires more effort than gaining positive reputation. Look for specific "atonement" quests offered by faction leaders if your standing becomes too low, or donate large quantities of valuable resources.
