Understanding enemy weaknesses is a cornerstone of survival in Code Vein 2. Each foe, from the common Hollow Soldiers to the formidable bosses like the 'Temporal Aberration,' possesses vulnerabilities that can be exploited for a significant advantage. These weaknesses are often tied to specific damage types, elemental affinities, or even attack patterns. For example, the 'Frostbite' status effect, which can be inflicted by certain Gifts or weapons, might deal an additional 20% damage to enemies susceptible to cold, and also slow their attack speed by 10% for 5 seconds. Conversely, some enemies might be resistant to physical damage but highly vulnerable to 'Light' or 'Dark' elemental attacks.
The game provides subtle cues to help players identify these weaknesses. Observing an enemy's reaction to different attack types is key. If an enemy recoils significantly or emits a distinct visual effect when struck by a fire-based Gift, it's a strong indicator of fire vulnerability. Some enemies might also have glowing weak points that, when targeted, deal critical damage and can stagger them. For instance, striking the exposed core of a 'Clockwork Sentinel' might interrupt its powerful charge attack and leave it open for several free hits. Bosses often have more complex weakness patterns that can change throughout the fight. The 'Chronos Warden,' for example, might be weak to blunt damage in its first phase, but then develop a resistance to it in its second phase, becoming vulnerable to piercing attacks instead.
You can also consult the 'Bestiary' in their menu, which often provides detailed information on enemy resistances and weaknesses after encountering them a certain number of times. This can be invaluable for planning your loadout before a difficult encounter. If the Bestiary indicates that the 'Abyssal Leviathan' has a 30% weakness to lightning damage, equipping a lightning-infused weapon or a Gift like 'Thunderclap' becomes a priority. Furthermore, certain Blood Codes excel against specific enemy types. A Code focused on rapid, multi-hit attacks might be ideal for enemies with low poise, while a Code with high stagger potential would be better suited for larger, more imposing foes. Learning to adapt your strategy based on these weaknesses, rather than relying on a single, all-purpose build, is essential for overcoming the toughest challenges Code Vein 2 throws at you.
