Successor of the Breath Strategy
The Successor of the Breath, a chilling presence found amidst the frozen peaks of the Frostbite Expanse, specializes in ice-based attacks and area denial. Her primary offensive capabilities revolve around "Frostbite Breath," a cone of freezing mist that inflicts rapid damage and can slow your movement. Dodge *to the side* of the cone, and then sprint to close the distance. She also utilizes "Ice Shard Barrage," launching a series of sharp projectiles. Similar to the Successor of the Ribcage, repeated sideways dodges are your best defense. Her "Glacial Slam," where she brings down an icy hammer, has a significant wind-up and can be dodged by rolling away or to the side, leaving her vulnerable for a few hits.
The Successor's most dangerous ability is her "Frozen Ground" attack, which creates patches of ice that slow your movement and can inflict damage over time. Avoid these areas at all costs. If you find yourself caught in one, immediately attempt to dodge out of it. Consider equipping the "Heat Resistance" passive ability or consuming a "Heatproof Charm" to mitigate the damage from her ice attacks, as well as the "Stamina Recovery" passive to help you dodge more frequently. The Successor of the Breath is particularly weak to fire damage. If you have access to fire-infused weapons or fire-based Blood Codes, this is the ideal encounter to exploit that weakness. Aim to land charged heavy attacks during her brief recovery windows after her slams.
A common error is to stand too close to her for too long, making it difficult to avoid her wide-reaching ice attacks. Maintain a moderate distance, allowing you to react to her various frost-based assaults. If you are struggling to manage her ichor, consider using the "Haze" Blood Code's "Shadow Step" to create distance and safely use a "Blood Pack." Her "Ice Nova" attack, which emanates from her in a large radius, requires a well-timed dodge *through* the expanding wave or a sprint to the edge of its range. Successfully defeating the Successor of the Breath will grant you the "Breath's Blood Code," unlocking potent ice-based abilities.
