Successor of the Throat Strategy
The Successor of the Throat, a grotesque entity found within the echoing chambers of the Cathedral of the Sacred Blood, presents a unique challenge centered around its potent sonic attacks and its ability to summon lesser enemies. This boss primarily utilizes sonic waves and a devastating scream attack that can inflict the Silence status effect, preventing the use of Gifts. The key to this fight is managing the adds and exploiting the Successor's brief recovery periods. When it begins to charge its scream, indicated by a visible distortion in the air around its head, immediately seek cover behind any of the pillars in the arena or prepare to dodge laterally.
The Successor will periodically summon Hollow Soldiers. It is imperative to deal with these adds swiftly, as they can overwhelm you and distract from the main threat. Prioritize eliminating them with quick attacks or AoE Gifts like Thunderclap. Once the adds are cleared, the Successor will often enter a brief stunned state, providing a window for significant damage. During this phase, focus your attacks on its exposed throat, its primary weak point. Weapons with a good reach, such as the Halberd of the Great Knight, are beneficial for hitting this target safely.
Be aware of its other attacks, including a lunging bite and a sweeping sonic blast. The bite can be dodged by rolling towards the Successor, while the sonic blast requires a well-timed sidestep. If you are using a caster-focused Blood Code, such as the Prometheus, prioritize using your most potent offensive Gifts during the stunned phases. Conserve your Focus Gauge for defensive maneuvers or to activate powerful offensive Gifts when the opportunity arises. The Successor of the Throat is particularly vulnerable to Lightning damage. Equipping a weapon with lightning properties or utilizing lightning-based Gifts can significantly shorten the fight. Remember to keep your Regenerator passive active if possible, as consistent health regeneration can help mitigate chip damage from the adds.
