Currency & Resource Management

Effective management of currency and resources is fundamental to your survival and progression in Code Vein II. The primary forms of currency you'll encounter are "Lost Gems" and "Blood Echoes." Lost Gems are a rare and valuable resource, often found in chests, dropped by elite enemies, or awarded for completing specific quests. They are primarily used to purchase powerful Blood Codes, unique weapon upgrades, and rare crafting materials from merchants like the enigmatic "Queen's Handmaid." Due to their scarcity, careful consideration should be given to how you spend your Lost Gems; investing in a Blood Code that complements your playstyle early on can provide a significant advantage.

Blood Echoes, on the other hand, are the more common form of currency, dropped by virtually every enemy you defeat. They serve as both experience points for leveling up your character and as a means of purchasing basic consumables, ammunition, and weapon enhancements from vendors. The accumulation of Blood Echoes is directly tied to your combat prowess. A key mechanic to be aware of is that upon death, you drop all your accumulated Blood Echoes at the location of your demise. You have one opportunity to recover them by returning to that spot and defeating the enemy that claimed them. If you die again before recovering them, they are lost permanently.

Beyond currency, you'll be managing several consumable items and crafting materials. Consumables like "Stimulant Vials" (which temporarily boost attack power) and "Regenerator" (which slowly restores health) are essential for overcoming challenging encounters. Crafting materials, such as "Titanite Shards" and "Blood Veins," are used to upgrade your weapons and Blood Veils at a Mistle or through specific NPCs. The availability of these materials often dictates the pace of your weapon progression. For instance, you might find a powerful new weapon but be unable to upgrade it until you've gathered enough Titanite Shards from enemies in the "Sunken City".

A common mistake is to hoard resources excessively, fearing their loss upon death, which can lead to under-leveled characters and under-upgraded gear. Conversely, spending too recklessly without considering future needs can leave you unprepared for tougher areas. It's a delicate balance. Prioritize upgrading your primary weapon and Blood Veil, and ensure you always have a sufficient stock of healing and stamina-restoring consumables. Regularly checking vendor inventories for useful items and materials is also a good practice, as their stock can refresh or change as you progress through the story.
