Blood Veils
Blood Veils are your primary defensive equipment in Code Vein 2, offering protection against enemy attacks and influencing your character's stats and abilities. Unlike traditional armor, Blood Veils are worn over your body and are intrinsically linked to the game's vampiric themes. Each Blood Veil possesses a unique defense rating, resistances to various damage types (physical, elemental, and status effects), and often comes with special passive effects that can significantly alter your combat approach. For instance, a lighter Blood Veil might offer less raw defense but provide a boost to your evasion speed or ichor regeneration, while a heavier Veil could grant superior damage reduction at the cost of mobility.
The choice of Blood Veil is as strategic as the choice of weapon or Blood Code. A Blood Veil that offers high resistance to fire damage would be invaluable when facing fire-wielding enemies, while one that boosts your parry window could be essential for players who rely on that defensive mechanic. Furthermore, Blood Veils are crucial for performing "drain attacks." When an enemy is staggered or successfully parried, attacking them with a drain attack while wearing a Blood Veil allows you to absorb their ichor, replenishing your own reserves and enabling more frequent use of powerful Gifts. The effectiveness of these drain attacks can vary between different Blood Veils, with some offering higher ichor yields.
Players will discover several Blood Veils throughout their journey, from basic models found early in the game to rare and powerful variants hidden in secret areas or dropped by formidable bosses. Some Blood Veils might also have unique passive abilities, such as increasing the drop rate of certain items or providing a small health regeneration over time. The "Queen's Embrace" Blood Veil, for example, might offer a significant boost to ichor absorption. Upgrading your Blood Veil with appropriate materials can further enhance its defensive capabilities and passive effects, making it a crucial part of your character build. The "Crimson Guard" is another example of a defensive Blood Veil.
