Understanding Enemy Aggro
Mastering enemy aggro, or the system by which enemies target and engage players, is a fundamental skill for survival in Code Vein II. Each enemy type possesses a distinct aggro radius and detection method. Most common enemies, like the shambling Lost, will become hostile when you enter their immediate vicinity, typically within a 10-15 meter range. However, some more perceptive foes, such as the Stalker Revenants, can detect players from much further distances, especially if you are moving erratically or making loud noises. Understanding these ranges allows for strategic engagement, enabling you to pull individual enemies away from groups or to set up ambushes.
Certain enemy actions can also trigger aggro. For example, if you attack an enemy and miss, or if your attack hits an adjacent enemy, it can draw the attention of nearby foes even if they were initially outside your aggro radius. The use of loud or flashy Gifts, like the "Thunderclap" ability of the Stormbringer Blood Code, can also attract attention from a wider area. Conversely, stealthy movement, achieved by walking instead of running and utilizing cover, can help you bypass enemies or initiate combat on your own terms. Some enemies, particularly bosses like the Queen's Knight, have specific aggro mechanics. They might focus their attacks on You who last dealt them significant damage, or they may have a "taunt" ability that draws all nearby enemies to their location. Learning to manage aggro is crucial for crowd control; by intentionally drawing the attention of one or two enemies, you can prevent being overwhelmed by a large horde. If you find yourself surrounded, using a Gift like Shadow Step can momentarily break aggro, allowing you to reposition or heal. Observing enemy behavior and their visual cues, such as their head turning towards you, is key to predicting and controlling their engagement.
