Exploring the Data Banks

The Data Banks within the Ancient Research Facility are a treasure trove of lost knowledge and crucial information, but they are also heavily guarded and fraught with peril. The primary inhabitants of this section are the Data Wraiths, ethereal beings that can phase through solid objects and attack with psionic energy. Their sature attack is the Memory Drain, which not only deals damage but also temporarily reduces your maximum Ichor by 15%. To combat them effectively, use Blood Codes that offer enhanced psychic resistance or focus on rapid, close-range attacks to interrupt their casting. The Data Banks are organized into several interconnected sectors, each containing vital research logs and encrypted data fragments. To access the deeper sectors, you will need to find three Access Keys. The first Access Key is held by a rogue AI, the Archivist, who patrols the main archive hall. The Archivist is a formidable foe, capable of summoning smaller Data Wraiths and unleashing a devastating energy beam. Its weakness lies in its core processor, which is exposed after it completes its beam attack. A well-timed parry can stagger it, allowing for a critical hit. The second Access Key is located within a secure vault, accessible only after solving a logic puzzle involving redirecting power conduits. The puzzle requires you to activate a sequence of three terminals in the correct order, indicated by symbols on the wall. The third Access Key is found in a hidden laboratory, accessible by navigating a series of laser grids. These grids can be bypassed by using the Phase Shift Blood Skill, which grants temporary invulnerability and the ability to pass through solid objects.

As you delve deeper into the Data Banks, you will encounter environmental hazards such as corrupted data streams that inflict a debuff called "Data Corruption," which randomly scrambles your controls for short periods. To counteract this, keep a supply of Data Stabilizers, consumable items that cleanse this debuff. The Data Banks also contain valuable lore entries that shed light on the events leading to the world's collapse. These are often found on glowing terminals or within data capsules. Interacting with these terminals is crucial for understanding the narrative and the motivations of the various factions. Some terminals also offer opportunities to upgrade your Blood Codes or unlock new Blood Veils. Be wary of the "Echoes of the Past," spectral remnants of researchers who will attack if disturbed. While not as powerful as the Data Wraiths, they can be numerous and chip away at your health. The ultimate objective within the Data Banks is to locate the central server, which contains the schematics for the facility's core systems. This server is protected by a powerful guardian, the Sentinel Unit, a heavily armed drone that uses several projectile and area-of-effect attacks. Its primary weakness is its power core, located on its underside, which is exposed after it unleashes its "Orbital Barrage" attack.
