The Ancient Research Facility lies hidden within the treacherous Whispering Dunes, a vast expanse of shifting sands and ancient ruins. Navigating this area requires careful attention to your compass and a keen understanding of the environment. The primary navigational hazard is the sandstorms, which can reduce visibility to near zero and disorient you. When a sandstorm is imminent, indicated by a darkening sky and a rising wind sound, seek shelter within the ruins or use the Sand Goggles, an accessory that grants 50% resistance to sandstorm disorientation. The facility itself is guarded by Sand Stalkers, agile creatures that burrow beneath the sand and emerge to ambush unsuspecting Revenants. Their primary attack is a swift lunge, often preceded by a telltale ripple in the sand. Learning to anticipate these movements is key to survival. The facility's entrance is not immediately obvious; it is concealed behind a crumbling wall marked with a faded symbol of a cogwheel. This symbol can be spotted from a distance if you are observant. To access the entrance, you will need to activate three ancient pressure plates scattered throughout the surrounding dunes. The first is located near a cluster of petrified trees, the second is partially buried beneath a collapsed archway, and the third is guarded by a group of three Dune Scorpions. Each Scorpion has a venomous tail that inflicts the Poison status effect, so be prepared with Antidote Vials.
Once all three pressure plates are activated, the concealed entrance will grind open. Inside, the facility is a maze of darkened corridors and malfunctioning machinery. The primary enemies within are the malfunctioning Automatons, robotic constructs that patrol the halls. These enemies are resistant to physical damage but vulnerable to electrical attacks. The Shockwave Strike Blood Skill, available from the Storm Blood Code, is particularly effective against them. Be mindful of the environmental hazards within the facility, such as electrified floors and unstable walkways. Look for glowing conduits on the walls; these indicate active electrical circuits. You can temporarily disable these by striking them with a charged attack. The facility's layout is designed to confuse, with many dead ends and looping paths. Pay close attention to the schematics found on scattered terminals; these can provide valuable clues to the correct route. The ultimate goal is to reach the central data core, which is located in the deepest section of the facility. Along the way, you will encounter a miniboss, the Guardian Unit, a heavily armored automaton that utilizes powerful laser attacks.
