Yakumo's Combat Role & Gifts
Yakumo, a formidable ally in Code Vein II, operates as a heavy-hitting melee combatant with a focus on defensive capabilities and sustained damage. His combat style is characterized by his ability to absorb damage and retaliate with powerful, deliberate strikes. Understanding Yakumo's role and the Gifts he brings to the battlefield is crucial for overcoming heavily armored enemies and surviving prolonged, intense engagements, particularly against bosses like the Colossal Golem in the Iron Vein Mines.
Yakumo's primary combat role is that of a tank and a heavy damage dealer. He excels in the front lines, drawing enemy aggression and weathering powerful blows. A sature Gift he often possesses is Iron Will, which significantly increases his defense and resistance to stagger, allowing him to stand his ground against overwhelming attacks. Complementing his defensive prowess is his offensive capability, often showcased through Gifts like Crushing Blow, which delivers a devastating, slow-moving hammer strike that can stagger even the largest enemies and deal massive damage. He also frequently utilizes Cleave, a wide-sweeping attack that can hit multiple enemies in front of him, making him effective against groups.
Beyond his direct combat abilities, Yakumo can also provide crucial support through his unique Gifts. He may have access to Guardian Aura, a Gift that projects an area of effect that slightly heals allies within its radius and reduces incoming damage. This makes him an excellent anchor for the party, allowing other members to focus on offense with less worry about their own survival. He can also employ Taunt, a Gift that forces nearby enemies to focus their attacks on him, effectively drawing aggro and protecting more vulnerable party members.
When fighting alongside Yakumo, it's best to let him take the front. Allow him to engage enemies and use Iron Will and Taunt to absorb damage and control enemy attention. While he is tanking, you can focus on dealing damage from a safe distance or exploiting openings created by his Crushing Blow. If you are playing a character that struggles with survivability, Yakumo's Guardian Aura can provide a much-needed buffer. His ability to draw aggro is particularly useful when facing enemies with devastating area-of-effect attacks, as he can position himself to absorb the brunt of the impact. For instance, when facing the aforementioned Colossal Golem, Yakumo's ability to withstand its ground-shaking slams is invaluable, allowing You to safely target its weak points.
