Home Base & Facilities
Upon completing the initial Ruined City Underground area, you'll gain access to your Home Base. This serves as your central hub for all essential activities, character progression, and resource management. Understanding its various facilities and NPCs is crucial for your survival and success in Vein.
Home Base Overview
Your Home Base is a sanctuary where you can prepare for expeditions, upgrade your gear, manage your Blood Codes, and interact with your companions. It's a safe zone where enemies will not attack, allowing you to strategize and recuperate without pressure.
Key Facilities and NPCs
The Home Base houses several vital facilities, each managed by a specific NPC offering unique services. Familiarize yourself with their locations and functions to maximize your efficiency.
1. Io - The Memory Keeper
- Location: Io is typically found near the central area of the Home Base, often by the Mistle.
- Services:
- Blood Code Restoration: Io is your primary contact for restoring Vestiges. Bringing her Vestige Fragments will unlock new Blood Codes or enhance existing ones, granting you access to powerful Gifts and stat boosts. Always prioritize finding and bringing her these fragments.
- Memory Viewing: Interacting with Io also allows you to view the memories associated with restored Vestiges, providing crucial lore and backstory for the world of Vein and its inhabitants.
- Strategy: After every major area or boss fight, check your inventory for new Vestige Fragments and immediately bring them to Io. Unlocking new Blood Codes is paramount for adapting your build and overcoming challenges.
2. Murasame - The Weaponsmith
- Location: Murasame operates her forge in a dedicated workshop area within the Home Base.
- Services:
- Weapon & Veil Upgrades: Murasame can enhance your weapons and Blood Veils using various materials found throughout Vein. Upgrading increases their base attack/defense and scaling.
- Transformation: She can transform your equipment, changing its scaling properties or adding elemental damage. This is vital for optimizing your build around specific Blood Codes and Gifts. For example, a "Fortification" transformation can increase defense, while "Alleviation" reduces weight.
- Purchase & Sell: You can buy new weapons and Blood Veils from her, or sell unwanted equipment for Haze.
- Strategy:
- Regularly check Murasame's inventory for new weapons and Veils as you progress.
- Prioritize upgrading your primary weapon and Blood Veil. Early game, focus on +3 to +5 upgrades.
- Experiment with transformations. If you're using a Blood Code with high Strength, consider a "Strength" transformation for your weapon to maximize damage output.
- Keep an eye out for rare upgrade materials like Queen Steel and Awake MJ212, which are essential for higher-tier upgrades.
3. Coco - The Merchant
- Location: Coco runs her shop from a stall within the Home Base.
- Services:
- Item Purchase: She sells several consumables, including Regen Inducers, Stamina Boosters, Antidotes, and various Awake materials (e.g., Awake MJ018, Awake MJ109).
- Item Selling: You can sell any excess items or equipment for Haze.
- Strategy:
- Always stock up on essential healing items and status effect cures before venturing out.
- Purchase Awake materials from her if you're short on specific types needed for Gift mastery.
- Selling unwanted items is a good way to earn extra Haze for upgrades and purchases.
4. Davis - The Depths & Training Master
- Location: Davis is usually found near the entrance to the Depths or the training area.
- Services:
- Depths Access: Davis provides access to the challenging "Depths" areas. These optional dungeons offer valuable Haze, rare materials, and unique items. You'll need Depth Maps to unlock these areas, which are found during your main progression (e.g., Den of the Dead Depth Map from Ruined City Center).
- Training: He can also initiate a training session, allowing you to practice combat mechanics and test out new Blood Codes and Gifts against various enemy types in a safe environment.
- Strategy:
- Tackle Depths areas when you feel confident in your current build. They are excellent for farming Haze and upgrade materials.
- Use the training area to master new Gifts, practice parrying, and test weapon movesets without fear of losing Haze.
5. Louis, Yakumo, Mia, Eva, Jack, Karen - Companions
- Location: Your companions can be found scattered around the Home Base.
- Services:
- Dialogue & Lore: Speak to them regularly. They offer insights into the story, character backgrounds, and the world of Vein. New dialogue often appears after major story events or boss fights.
- Trade: Some companions, like Louis, might offer to trade items with you for specific Old-world Materials or Valuable Gems you find.
- Partner Selection: You can choose which companion to bring with you on your next expedition by speaking to them. Each companion offers unique support abilities and Gifts.
- Strategy:
- Always speak to all available companions after returning from an expedition. Their dialogue often provides hints or expands on the narrative.
- Consider their strengths when choosing a partner. Yakumo is excellent for tanking, while Mia offers ranged support.
6. Mistle - The Lifeline
- Location: A Mistle is always present in the center of your Home Base.
- Services: This functions identically to Mistles found in the field, allowing you to:
- Rest (refills HP, Ichor, Regen charges, respawns enemies in the field).
- Level up your character using Haze.
- Manage Blood Codes and Gifts.
- Teleport to other activated Mistles.
- Access your Storage.
- Strategy: Always level up and manage your Blood Codes at the Home Base Mistle before heading out. This ensures you're fully prepared for the challenges ahead.
