Exploring the City Streets (Ruined City Center)

Welcome to the Ruined City Center, a sprawling urban wasteland that serves as your first major outdoor area in Code Vein. This guide will meticulously detail your journey through the "City Streets" section, leading you from the initial Mistle to the next crucial checkpoint. Prepare for a mix of close-quarters combat, ranged threats, and environmental puzzles. Consistent vigilance and strategic use of your Blood Veils and Gifts will be key to survival.

Area Overview: The City Streets are characterized by their multi-layered design, featuring collapsed buildings, elevated walkways, and numerous hidden paths. Enemies here often utilize ranged attacks or guard effectively, requiring careful positioning and execution. Keep an eye out for valuable crafting materials and Vestiges scattered throughout the debris.

Walkthrough: From Parking Garage Mistle to the Overpass

Upon activating the Parking Garage Mistle (your first Mistle in this specific area), you'll find yourself at the entrance of a partially collapsed parking structure. This Mistle is crucial for respawning and managing your loadout.

  1. Initial Descent and First Encounters:
    • From the Mistle, head straight and take the stairs down. You'll immediately encounter a few Lost (standard melee variants). These are easily dispatched with basic attacks and parries.
    • As you descend further, a Bayonet Lost will appear on an elevated platform to your left, firing projectiles. Prioritize closing the distance or using ranged Gifts/attacks to eliminate it.
    • Item: Near the bottom of the first set of stairs, check behind a wrecked car for 2x Old-world Materials.
  2. Navigating the Lower Level:
    • Continue along the lower path. You'll soon face a Shield Lost. These enemies are highly resistant to frontal attacks. Circle around them to strike their exposed back or use Gifts that break guard (e.g., "Guard of Honor" with a heavy weapon).
    • Further ahead, another Bayonet Lost will be positioned on a higher ledge, overlooking a small open area. Deal with it before proceeding.
    • Item: In the open area, near a broken bus, you'll find 1x Queen Steel.
  3. Ascending to the Upper Levels:
    • Look for a broken staircase or ladder leading upwards from the open area. This path will take you to the elevated sections where the Bayonet Lost were initially positioned.
    • As you climb, be wary of a Lost Assassin (fast, dual-wielding Lost) that might ambush you from a corner. Their quick attacks can be deadly; dodge and counter.
    • Strategy Tip (Plunging Attacks): This elevated section is an excellent place to practice plunging attacks. As you reach the top, you'll often see Lost patrolling below. Position yourself directly above them and perform a plunging attack (jump and then attack) for significant damage and a knockdown. This is particularly effective against Shield Lost or groups.
  4. Crossing the First Gap and Finding the Vestige:
    • After clearing the upper level, you'll come to a large gap that separates you from the next section of the street. Look for a narrow, makeshift bridge made of debris or a slightly lower ledge that allows you to jump across.
    • Item: Immediately after crossing this gap, explore the small alcove to your right. You will find Vestige Part (Eos) A. Collecting Vestiges is crucial for unlocking new Gifts and understanding the lore.
    • Enemy: A Spiked Lost (larger, slower Lost with high defense) often patrols this area. Focus on breaking its poise with heavy attacks or drain its Ichor for powerful Gifts.
  5. The Overpass and the Second Mistle:
    • Continue forward, navigating through more debris and collapsed structures. You'll encounter a mix of standard Lost and potentially another Bayonet Lost on a distant platform.
    • The path will eventually lead you onto a wide, broken overpass. This area often features multiple Lost patrolling, including a Large Lost (a tougher, larger variant of the standard Lost). Use your surroundings to your advantage, luring enemies one by one if possible.
    • Item: On the overpass, near a destroyed vehicle, collect 3x Awake MJ212 (used for increasing Gift proficiency).
    • At the far end of the overpass, you will discover the Overpass Mistle. Activate this to establish your next checkpoint.

Enemy Encounters & Strategies

The City Streets introduce several enemy types that will test your combat prowess:

  • Lost (Standard): Basic melee attackers. Easy to parry and backstab.
  • Bayonet Lost: Ranged attackers. Prioritize closing the distance or using ranged Gifts. Their shots can interrupt your actions.
  • Shield Lost: Heavily armored in the front. Circle around for backstabs or use guard-breaking attacks. They are slow but can hit hard.
  • Lost Assassin: Fast and agile. Dodge their quick combos and counter-attack during their recovery frames.
  • Spiked Lost: High defense and poise. Use heavy attacks or charged attacks to break their guard and open them up for damage.
  • Large Lost: Larger, tougher versions of the standard Lost. They have more health and hit harder. Treat them like mini-bosses and manage your stamina carefully.

Important Items & Collectibles

Throughout the City Streets, keep an eye out for these valuable resources:

  • Old-world Materials: Essential for upgrading your weapons and Blood Veils.
  • Queen Steel: Another crucial material for advanced upgrades.
  • Awake MJ212: Used to gain proficiency with Gifts, allowing you to master them and use them with any Blood Code.
  • Vestige Parts: Crucial for unlocking new Blood Codes and their associated Gifts, as well as revealing more of the game's lore. Always collect these!
  • Regen Inducer: Occasionally dropped by enemies or found as pickups, these restore a portion of your Ichor.

Common Pitfalls & Tips

  • Environmental Hazards: Watch your step! Many areas have ledges or gaps that can lead to fall damage or instant death.
  • Ambushes: Enemies often hide behind corners, debris, or drop from above. Always approach new areas cautiously.
  • Stamina Management: Dodging, attacking, and using Gifts all consume stamina. Don't overcommit, especially against groups.
  • Ichor Management: Your Gifts are powerful but require Ichor. Use light attacks, parries, and backstabs to regain Ichor during combat.
  • Blood Veils: Experiment with different Blood Veils. Some offer better defense, while others enhance your Gift power or Ichor gain.
  • Plunging Attacks: As mentioned, these are incredibly effective from elevated positions, dealing high damage and often knocking down enemies. Look for opportunities!

After activating the Overpass Mistle, you've successfully navigated the initial "City Streets" section of the Ruined City Center. Take a moment to rest, upgrade your gear, and prepare for the challenges that lie ahead as you delve deeper into the devastated urban landscape.
