Entrenched machine gun nests and bunkers can halt an infantry advance cold. Avoid direct frontal assaults. Instead, use flanking infantry equipped with flamethrowers or grenades to clear them out. Mortars and artillery are excellent for suppressing or destroying these positions from a distance. Smoke grenades can provide cover for your infantry to close the distance safely. Tanks can also suppress or destroy them.
