Server Settings & Game Modes
Conan Exiles offers a robust array of server settings and game modes, allowing players to tailor their Exiled Lands experience. Whether you prefer a solitary journey, cooperative adventure, or intense PvP combat, understanding these options is crucial for setting up your ideal play environment.
Choosing Your Game Mode
When you first launch Conan Exiles, you'll be presented with several primary game mode choices:
- Singleplayer / Co-Op: This mode allows you to play offline by yourself or with a small group of friends (typically up to 10 players) directly connected to your game. This is ideal for learning the ropes, building without external pressure, or enjoying a private experience. All server settings are managed directly from your game client.
- Play Online / Multiplayer: This option connects you to dedicated servers, either official or community-run. These servers host persistent worlds that continue even when you're offline. Multiplayer servers are categorized by their rulesets:
- PvE (Player vs. Environment): Focuses on exploration, building, and fighting AI enemies. Player-on-player combat is generally disabled, and player structures cannot be damaged by other players.
- PvP (Player vs. Player): Allows players to attack each other, destroy bases, and steal loot. This mode offers a more competitive and dangerous experience.
- PvP-Conflict: A hybrid mode where PvP is restricted to specific times or areas, often during raid hours. This allows for building and exploration with periods of intense conflict.
- RP (Role-Playing): These servers often have specific community rules encouraging role-playing, character development, and narrative-driven gameplay. PvP rules can vary greatly on RP servers.
Navigating Server Settings (Singleplayer/Co-Op & Admin Panels)
For Singleplayer/Co-Op games, or if you are an administrator on a dedicated server, you have extensive control over the game's mechanics. Access these settings via the "Server Settings" tab in the main menu or through the in-game Admin Panel (accessible by pressing the 'Esc' key and selecting 'Settings' then 'Server Settings' if you have admin privileges).
General Settings
These settings control fundamental aspects of the game world:
- Day/Night Cycle Speed: Adjust how quickly the in-game day and night pass. A faster cycle means quicker resource respawns and more frequent weather changes.
- Resource Harvest Multiplier: Increase or decrease the amount of resources (e.g., Stone, Wood, Ironstone) you gather from nodes. Setting this to 2x will yield double the normal amount.
- XP Gain Multiplier: Modify how quickly players earn experience points from crafting, combat, and exploration. Higher values accelerate progression.
- Player Damage Multiplier: Adjust the damage players deal to NPCs and other players.
- NPC Damage Multiplier: Adjust the damage NPCs deal to players.
- Durability Multiplier: Controls how quickly tools, weapons, and armor degrade. A higher multiplier means items last longer.
- Thirst/Hunger Multiplier: Determines how quickly players become thirsty or hungry. Lower values make survival easier.
- Drop Equipment on Death: Toggle whether players drop all their equipped items and inventory upon death. Disabling this makes death less punishing.
- Purge Level: Set the difficulty and frequency of Purges, which are waves of NPCs attacking player bases.
Combat Settings
Fine-tune the combat experience:
- PvP Enabled: Crucial for determining if player-on-player combat is allowed.
- Building Damage Multiplier (PvP): Controls how much damage You can inflict on other players' structures during PvP.
- Avatar Summoning Enabled: Allows players to summon powerful Avatars of their chosen deities. Often disabled on PvP servers to prevent excessive base destruction.
- Friendly Fire: Determines if You can damage their own clan members or thralls.
Survival Settings
Adjust the harshness of the Exiled Lands:
- Temperature Damage Multiplier: Controls how much damage extreme heat or cold inflicts.
- Encumbrance Multiplier: Modifies the impact of carrying too much weight.
- Stamina Cost Multiplier: Adjusts the stamina consumed by actions like attacking, dodging, and running.
Crafting & Building Settings
Influence the pace of progression and base construction:
- Crafting Cost Multiplier: Reduce or increase the resources required to craft items.
- Crafting Speed Multiplier: Speed up or slow down crafting times in workbenches like the Carpenter's Bench or Blacksmith's Bench.
- Building Decay Rate: Determines how quickly player structures decay over time if not maintained. Setting this to 0 disables decay.
Actionable Walkthrough: Setting Up a Custom Singleplayer Game
Follow these steps to create a tailored singleplayer experience:
- From the Main Menu, select "Singleplayer / Co-Op".
- On the character creation screen, finalize your Exile's appearance and starting religion.
- Once in-game, press 'Esc' to open the menu.
- Select "Settings" from the menu.
- Navigate to the "Server Settings" tab.
- Adjust Resource Gathering: In the "General" section, locate "Resource Harvest Amount Multiplier". For a faster progression, set this to "2.0" or "3.0". This means each swing of your Pickaxe on an Ironstone node will yield 2-3 Ironstone instead of 1.
- Accelerate XP Gain: Find "XP Multiplier" and increase it to "2.0" or "3.0" to level up faster.
- Ease Survival: In the "Survival" section, reduce "Thirst Multiplier" and "Hunger Multiplier" to "0.5" to make your character less demanding.
- Disable Building Decay (Optional): If you want your base to last indefinitely without needing repairs, go to the "Building" section and set "Building Decay Time" to "0.0".
- Enable Admin Privileges (Optional): To use console commands and spawn items, go to the "General" section and click "Make Me Admin". You'll need to set an Admin Password first.
- After making your desired changes, ensure you click "Apply" at the bottom of the Server Settings panel.
- Resume your game, and the new settings will be active immediately.
Experimenting with these settings allows you to craft a Conan Exiles experience that perfectly suits your playstyle, whether you seek a brutal survival challenge or a relaxed building adventure.
