Crafting & Resources
In the Federal Bureau of Control, survival hinges on your ability to adapt and enhance your capabilities. Crafting at Control Points is your primary method for achieving this, allowing you to forge new Service Weapon forms, upgrade existing ones, and create powerful Personal and Weapon Mods. Mastering resource management and understanding the crafting system is crucial for Jesse Faden's journey through the Oldest House.
The Fundamentals of Crafting
All crafting activities take place at any activated Control Point. Simply interact with the Control Point and navigate to the "Craft" tab. Here, you'll find options for:
- Service Weapon Forms: Unlock and create new configurations for your Service Weapon, expanding your combat versatility.
- Weapon Mods: Enhance specific Service Weapon forms with passive bonuses like increased damage, accuracy, or reload speed.
- Personal Mods: Boost Jesse's intrinsic abilities, such as health, energy regeneration, or launch damage.
Essential Crafting Materials
Two main categories of resources fuel your crafting endeavors:
1. Source
Source is the universal currency of the Oldest House's crafting system. It's a fundamental requirement for nearly every crafting action, from forging new weapon forms to creating high-tier mods.
- Acquisition:
- Defeated Hiss: The most common source. Every Hiss enemy you eliminate has a chance to drop Source. Higher-tier Hiss often drop more substantial amounts.
- Containers: Look for red supply containers scattered throughout the Oldest House. These often contain Source alongside other materials.
- Dismantling: Unwanted Weapon or Personal Mods, as well as duplicate Service Weapon forms, can be dismantled for a return of Source and some Mod Materials. This is an excellent way to recycle lower-tier items.
- Mission Rewards: Completing main missions and side quests frequently awards significant quantities of Source.
- Strategy: Always keep an eye on your Source reserves. Prioritize collecting it from every defeated enemy and container. If you're running low, consider revisiting areas with high Hiss concentrations or dismantling excess mods.
2. Mod Materials
Beyond Source, specific Mod Materials are required to craft Weapon and Personal Mods. These materials are categorized by their rarity and the tier of mod they are used to create. Understanding these tiers is key to efficient crafting.
Mod Materials are generally dropped by defeated Hiss, with stronger Hiss entities often dropping rarer materials. They can also be found in supply containers.
Mod Material Tiers & Examples:
Materials are typically grouped into three tiers, corresponding to the power and rarity of the mods they create:
- Tier 1 (Common): Used for basic, green-rarity mods. These are abundant early on.
- Examples: Untapped Potential (often for energy/ability mods), House Shift (often for health/defense mods).
- Tier 2 (Uncommon/Rare): Required for blue-rarity mods, offering more significant bonuses. These become more common as you progress.
- Examples: Corrupted Sample (frequently for damage/offensive mods), Astral Spike (often for specific weapon type mods).
- Tier 3 (Epic/Legendary): Essential for purple-rarity mods, which provide the most potent enhancements. These are rarer and typically found in later game areas or from tougher enemies.
- Examples: Hiss Essence (high-end general purpose), Dimensional Fissure (for specialized, powerful mods).
Strategy: As you progress, you'll naturally accumulate higher-tier materials. Don't hoard lower-tier materials excessively; if you have a surplus and need Source, dismantling them is a viable option. However, always ensure you have enough for any specific lower-tier mods you might still want to craft for niche builds.
Crafting Recommendations & Resource Management
Efficient crafting and resource management will significantly impact your combat effectiveness. Here’s a strategic approach:
Early-Game Crafting (Foundation Building)
- Prioritize New Service Weapon Forms: As soon as you acquire a blueprint for a new Service Weapon form (e.g., Shatter, Spin), craft it immediately. Each form offers unique combat advantages, expanding your tactical options. The initial cost for these is usually manageable.
- Basic Personal Mods: Focus on crafting green-rarity Personal Mods that boost your core stats:
- Health Boost: Increases Jesse's maximum health. Essential for survivability.
- Energy Boost: Increases Jesse's maximum Energy, allowing for more frequent ability use (Launch, Shield, Evade).
- Energy Recharge: Speeds up Energy regeneration.
Crafting 2-3 of these early on will provide a solid foundation for combat.
- Weapon Mods for Your Preferred Style: Identify which Service Weapon forms you enjoy using most. Craft green-rarity Weapon Mods that complement them:
- For Grip: Look for "Damage Boost" or "Fire Rate Boost" mods.
- For Shatter: "Projectile Damage" or "Spread Reduction" are good choices.
- Dismantle Excess: You'll quickly accumulate many low-tier (green) mods. If you have multiple identical mods or mods for weapon forms you rarely use, dismantle them. This converts them into valuable Source and some Mod Materials, which can then be reinvested into more useful crafts.
Mid-to-Late Game Crafting (Specialization & Optimization)
- Higher-Tier Mods: As you acquire blue and purple Mod Materials, shift your focus to crafting higher-tier mods. These offer significantly better bonuses. Always replace lower-tier mods with their higher-tier counterparts when possible.
- Synergy with Abilities: Consider crafting mods that synergize with your favorite abilities. For example, if you heavily rely on Launch, look for "Launch Damage" or "Launch Efficiency" Personal Mods.
- Weapon-Specific Builds: Experiment with crafting mods that create specific weapon builds. For instance, a "Headshot Damage" and "Accuracy Boost" combination can make Grip incredibly potent for precision shots.
- Resource Hoarding (Strategic): While dismantling is good, avoid dismantling all your lower-tier materials if you anticipate needing them for a specific lower-tier mod that might be part of a unique build. However, generally, prioritize using your higher-tier materials for the best mods.
- Check Control Point Offerings: The available mods and weapon forms to craft at Control Points can sometimes refresh or expand after major story progression or completing certain side missions. Regularly check the crafting menu to see what new options are available.
Common Pitfalls & Tips
- Don't Over-Craft Early: While tempting, don't spend all your Source on every green mod you can make. Save some for unlocking new Service Weapon forms and for when better mod blueprints become available.
- Mod Inventory Management: Your mod inventory has a limit. Regularly review and dismantle unwanted mods to free up space and gain resources. There's no benefit to holding onto dozens of identical low-tier mods.
- Experimentation is Key: Don't be afraid to try different mod combinations. What works for one player might not work for another. Find the setup that best suits your playstyle.
- Side Missions for Resources: Many side missions offer unique Mod Materials or significant Source rewards. Don't neglect them if you find yourself low on resources.
