Mission 2: Unknown Caller - Navigating the Executive Sector
Following her briefing with the ghostly Director Trench, Jesse must venture deeper into the Executive Sector to locate the Communications Department. This mission marks a pivotal shift in gameplay, transitioning from basic gunplay to the high-octane "gun-and-ability" synergy that defines Control. As you navigate the shifted halls of the Federal Bureau of Control, you will face your first major combat tests against the Hiss and claim your most iconic power.
Objective: Reach the Communications Department
Your primary goal is to reach the Mail Room, but the path is blocked by Hiss corruption and locked security doors. You will encounter various Hiss Guards—the standard infantry of the game. These enemies use firearms and cover, requiring you to utilize the Service Weapon’s Grip form to pick them off from a distance. Watch for Hiss Resonators, floating clusters that can heal or buff nearby enemies; prioritize destroying these first to prevent combat from dragging on.
Unlocking the Launch Ability
The core milestone of 'Unknown Caller' is the discovery of the Floppy Disk, an Object of Power located within the Telemetry lab. Upon interacting with it, Jesse is transported to the Astral Plane for a challenge. Successfully completing this trial grants you Launch, your first and arguably most powerful supernatural ability.
- Utility: Launch allows Jesse to telekinetically grab office furniture, concrete chunks, or even enemy projectiles and hurl them at targets.
- Combat Strategy: Use Launch to strip away the white "shield" bars on armored Hiss enemies. The Service Weapon is effective for health depletion, but Launch is vital for breaking defenses and dealing massive burst damage.
Boss Encounter: Tommasi (Phase 1)
The mission culminates in the Mail Room with a confrontation against Mr. Tommasi. This is your first encounter with a Hiss Elevated—an enemy that flies and can dodge your Launch attacks. The trick to defeating him is to fire your Service Weapon to force him into a dodge animation, then immediately follow up with a Launch attack while his evasion is on cooldown. Once Tommasi retreats, you can cleanse the Control Point and finally access the Hotline chamber.
