Correspondence Collectibles

The Oldest House is a labyrinth of secrets, and among the most intriguing are the various pieces of correspondence scattered throughout its shifting architecture. These documents, ranging from official FBC memos to personal letters and research notes, offer invaluable insights into the Bureau's history, its personnel, and the bizarre phenomena it contains. Collecting them all is crucial for understanding the deeper lore of Control and for achieving 100% completion.

General Tips for Finding Correspondence

  • Explore Thoroughly: Many correspondence items are tucked away in corners, on desks, or in less-traveled rooms. Always take a moment to look around after clearing an area of Hiss.
  • Check All Surfaces: Don't just look at eye level. Correspondence can be on the floor, on high shelves (requiring Launch or Levitate), or even stuck to walls.
  • Listen for the Hum: While not as pronounced as with other collectibles, some correspondence items emit a faint, almost imperceptible hum. Keep your audio cues in mind.
  • Use Your Map: The in-game map will often highlight areas of interest, though not always specific collectible locations. Use it to track rooms you haven't fully explored.
  • Revisit Areas: As you gain new abilities like Levitate, revisit previously explored areas. Some correspondence items are only accessible with later powers.

Correspondence Locations by Sector

Executive Sector

This sector, being the initial entry point and the heart of the FBC's administration, contains many early documents detailing the Bureau's initial response to the Hiss invasion and internal communications.

  • Executive Affairs:
    • "Memo: Evacuation Protocol": Found on a desk in the main Executive Affairs office, near the large circular table. This document outlines the FBC's emergency procedures.
    • "Internal Communication: Director's Office Lockout": On a filing cabinet just outside Director Trench's office. Details the security measures taken during the initial lockdown.
  • Central Executive:
    • "Research Notes: The Board": Located on a small table in the corner of the Central Executive area, close to the Control Point. Provides early theories on the nature of the Board.
Maintenance Sector

The Maintenance Sector, with its industrial aesthetic, houses documents related to the Oldest House's infrastructure and the challenges of maintaining such an anomalous building.

  • Janitor's Office:
    • "Ahti's Work Order": On the counter in Ahti's office. A seemingly mundane document that hints at Ahti's unusual duties.
  • Upper Panopticon (after restoring power):
    • "Correspondence: Panopticon Security Breach": On a console in one of the higher-level security rooms overlooking the Panopticon. Discusses a past incident involving an escaped Object of Power.
Research Sector

As the hub for scientific study of the anomalous, the Research Sector is a treasure trove of scientific reports, experimental logs, and personal notes from FBC researchers.

  • Ritual Division:
    • "Report: Altered Item - Lucky Cat": On a lab bench in the main Ritual Division laboratory, near the containment unit for the Lucky Cat. Details the properties and containment procedures for this Altered Item.
    • "Personal Log: Dr. Underhill": In Dr. Underhill's office, on her desk. Offers a more personal perspective on her research and the stress of working at the FBC.
  • Parapsychology:
    • "Case File: Slide Projector": On a table in the main Parapsychology research area, near the large observation window. Provides background on the Slide Projector Object of Power.
Containment Sector

This sector is dedicated to housing the most dangerous Altered Items and Objects of Power. Correspondence here often details containment protocols, incident reports, and the psychological toll on personnel.

  • Logistics:
    • "Memo: New Containment Procedures": On a desk in the Logistics office, accessible after clearing the Hiss presence. Outlines updated security measures.
  • Panopticon (Lower Levels):
    • "Incident Report: P7 Containment Breach": On a crate near the entrance to the P7 cell. Describes a past breach and the efforts to re-contain an Object of Power.
Foundation (AWE Expansion)

The Foundation delves into the Oldest House's origins. Correspondence here often relates to the earliest days of the FBC and the mysteries of the Nail.

  • Collapsed Department:
    • "Early FBC Report: The Nail": Found on a broken desk within the Collapsed Department, accessible after restoring power to the area. Provides initial observations and theories about the Nail.
The Ash Tray Maze (AWE Expansion)

Correspondence in this surreal location is often fragmented, reflecting the distorted reality of the maze itself.

  • Various Points within the Maze:
    • "Fragmented Note: Dr. Hartman's Descent": Several pieces of this note are scattered throughout the maze, often near areas where Hartman's presence is strong. Each piece reveals more about his transformation and the influence of the Dark Place.

Remember, patience and thoroughness are key to uncovering all the secrets the Oldest House holds. Happy hunting, Director!
