Post-Game Activities & New Game+

Congratulations, Director! Completing the main story of Control is just the beginning of your journey within the Oldest House. The FBC always has more secrets to uncover, more Hiss to cleanse, and more challenges to overcome. This section details the wealth of content available after the credits roll, including the much-anticipated New Game+ mode.

Post-Game Exploration and Cleanup

Even after defeating the Hiss Prime, the Oldest House remains a dynamic and dangerous place. Many activities become available or are easier to tackle with your full arsenal of abilities and upgraded Service Weapon forms.

  • Side Missions and Hidden Areas: If you haven't already, now is the perfect time to track down any remaining side missions. Many of these offer unique rewards, lore, and challenging encounters. Pay special attention to the following:
    • "A Matter of Time": Located in the Research Sector, Synchronicity Lab. This mission unlocks the powerful Shield ability if you missed it.
    • "Old Friends": Found in the Maintenance Sector, NSC Power Plant. Completing this quest grants the Charge Service Weapon form.
    • "Fridge Duty": Initiated in the Maintenance Sector, Janitor's Office after speaking with Ahti. This mission chain leads to the Seize ability.
    • "Mr. Tommasi": A multi-part quest that culminates in a tough boss fight in the Research Sector, Ritual Division. Rewards include a significant amount of Source and rare mods.
    • Hidden Locations: Revisit areas like the Black Rock Quarry, Panopticon, and Containment Sector with new abilities (like Levitate) to access previously unreachable areas containing hidden collectibles and caches.
  • Collectibles and Lore: The Oldest House is brimming with documents, research, and multimedia files that flesh out its rich and mysterious lore. Use your map to identify areas with uncollected items. The Executive Sector and Research Sector are particularly dense with these.
  • Board Countermeasures: These repeatable objectives, accessed from any Control Point, are an excellent way to earn Source and Ability Points. They reset frequently, providing a continuous challenge and resource stream. Prioritize those offering Tier 5 Weapon or Personal Mods.
  • Bureau Alerts: These dynamic events pop up periodically across the Oldest House, signaling a surge in Hiss activity. They are time-sensitive and offer substantial rewards upon completion, including rare mods and large quantities of Source. Always check your map for active alerts.
  • Challenge Mode (Expeditions): Accessible from the Central Executive, Expeditions menu (after completing the "Jukebox" side mission), Expeditions are a series of increasingly difficult, timed combat challenges. They are perfect for testing your build and earning unique rewards like Jukebox Tokens and Legendary Mods.
    • Strategy: Focus on optimizing your loadout for specific enemy types and environmental hazards. Consider using mods that boost energy regeneration or weapon damage against Hiss Elevated.
  • Service Weapon Upgrades and Mods: Use your accumulated Source and Material to fully upgrade all Service Weapon forms and acquire the best possible mods. Look for Prime and Absolute tier mods for maximum effectiveness. The Astral Constructs menu at Control Points is your primary hub for this.

New Game+

Control's New Game+ mode allows you to restart the main story with many of your hard-earned progress carried over, offering a fresh perspective and increased difficulty. This is ideal for players who want to experience the narrative again with a fully powered Jesse Faden or to chase remaining achievements/trophies.

Initiating New Game+

  1. After completing the main story, return to the main menu.
  2. Select "New Game" and you will be prompted with the option to start a "New Game+". Confirm your choice.

What Carries Over in New Game+

New Game+ is designed to let you feel powerful from the outset, but with a heightened challenge to match. The following progress is retained:

  • Jesse's Abilities: All unlocked abilities (Launch, Levitate, Shield, Seize, Evade, Melee) and their upgrades will be available from the start.
  • Service Weapon Forms: All unlocked Service Weapon forms (Grip, Spin, Pierce, Charge, Shatter) and their upgrades carry over.
  • Mods: All Personal and Weapon Mods collected will be in your inventory.
  • Source and Materials: Your accumulated Source and crafting Materials (e.g., Untapped Potential, House Memory) will transfer.
  • Outfits: Any alternate outfits you've unlocked (e.g., Director's Suit, Asynchronous Suit) will be available immediately.
  • Collectibles (Lore): All collected documents, research, and multimedia files will remain in your archives.

What Does NOT Carry Over

To ensure a fresh narrative experience and appropriate difficulty scaling, some elements reset:

  • Story Progress: The main campaign and all side missions will reset. You will need to complete them again.
  • Control Points: All Control Points will need to be re-claimed.
  • Map Unlocks: The map will be fogged, requiring re-exploration.
  • Board Countermeasures and Bureau Alerts: These will reset and generate anew as you progress.

New Game+ Strategies and Tips

  • Increased Difficulty: Expect enemies to be tougher, deal more damage, and appear in greater numbers. This is where your fully upgraded abilities and optimized mod loadouts truly shine.
  • Experiment with Builds: With all abilities available from the start, New Game+ is an excellent opportunity to experiment with different playstyles. Try a melee-focused build, a pure Launch-spamming psychic, or a balanced approach.
  • Achievement Hunting: If you missed any achievements or trophies on your first playthrough, New Game+ provides a perfect chance to tackle them with your enhanced power. Pay attention to specific combat-related achievements or those tied to specific side missions.
  • Lore Deep Dive: Replaying the story allows you to catch subtle narrative cues, environmental storytelling, and dialogue you might have missed during your initial playthrough.
  • Resource Management: While you carry over resources, the increased difficulty means you'll still need to be mindful of crafting and upgrading. Prioritize mods that complement your chosen playstyle.
