Boss Weaknesses & Resistances
Conquering the formidable bosses of Core Keeper requires more than just brute force; understanding their elemental weaknesses and resistances is paramount. This guide will detail specific strategies, recommended gear, and consumable preparations to turn the tide of battle in your favor.
Glurch the Abominable Mass
- Location: Found in the starting biome, the Dirt Biome.
- Weakness: Explosive damage.
- Resistances: Slashing and Piercing damage are less effective.
- Strategy:
- Preparation: Craft several Bomb items using Explosive Powder (found in the Clay Caves or dropped by Bomb Crabs) and Fiber. Aim for at least 10-15 bombs.
- Gear: While not strictly necessary for Glurch, a basic Copper Sword or Tin Sword can be used for melee attacks between bomb throws. Focus on mobility with Wooden Armor or Copper Armor.
- Combat: Glurch is slow but leaves damaging slime trails. Kite Glurch, placing bombs strategically in its path or directly on it. Detonate bombs as it approaches. Use your melee weapon only when Glurch is stunned or you are confident you can land a few hits without taking excessive damage. Keep a safe distance and prioritize dodging its slime attacks.
- Consumables: Bring a stack of Cooked Mushrooms or Hearty Stew for health regeneration.
Ghorm the Devourer
- Location: Roams the Clay Caves biome, leaving a destructive path.
- Weakness: Melee damage, particularly from weapons with a high base damage.
- Resistances: Ranged and Magic attacks are significantly less effective.
- Strategy:
- Preparation: Clear a long, straight path in the Clay Caves, ideally with no obstacles. This creates a "arena" for kiting. Craft a Tin Pickaxe or Iron Pickaxe to quickly clear terrain.
- Gear: Focus on high-damage melee weapons. The Iron Sword or even a well-enchanted Tin Sword is recommended. For armor, prioritize defense with Iron Armor or Gold Armor if available.
- Combat: Ghorm moves in a predictable pattern, circling the map. Position yourself in your prepared path. As Ghorm approaches, attack its tail. Its head is heavily armored, and attacking it will deal minimal damage. Dodge its charges by moving to the side of your cleared path. Ghorm will occasionally stop to summon smaller enemies; clear these quickly to avoid being overwhelmed. Repeat the process of attacking the tail and dodging charges.
- Consumables: Spicy Pepper Salad for increased movement speed (useful for dodging) and Hearty Stew for sustained healing.
The Hive Mother
- Location: Deep within the Azeos' Wilderness biome, typically found in a large, enclosed hive structure.
- Weakness: Fire damage.
- Resistances: Poison and Piercing damage are less effective.
- Strategy:
- Preparation: Craft Flame Potions using Fire Slime (found in the Molten Quarry) and Bottled Water. Aim for at least 15-20 potions. Consider crafting a Flame Thrower if you have access to Mechanical Parts and Iron Bars.
- Gear: A Tin Bow or Iron Bow with Flame Arrows (crafted from Wood, Fiber, and Fire Slime) is highly effective. If going melee, an Iron Sword with a fire enchantment is beneficial. Azeos Armor (crafted from Azeos Ore) provides good defense against the Hive Mother's attacks.
- Combat: The Hive Mother is stationary but constantly spawns various hive creatures. Prioritize throwing Flame Potions at the Hive Mother and its spawned minions. If using a bow, aim Flame Arrows directly at the boss. The Hive Mother will also launch acid projectiles; dodge these by moving around the arena. Periodically, it will summon a large number of smaller grubs; use area-of-effect fire attacks or a wide-swinging melee weapon to clear them quickly. Maintain distance and focus fire on the boss.
- Consumables: Healing Potions (crafted from Glow Tulip and Bottled Water) and Poison Antidotes (crafted from Poison Ivy and Bottled Water) are crucial due to the poison attacks from some of its spawns.
