Game Progression & Milestones

Core Keeper offers a rich, emergent gameplay experience, but understanding key progression milestones can significantly streamline your adventure. This guide will walk you through the essential steps, from your humble beginnings to conquering the most formidable foes.

Early Game: Establishing Your Core

Your initial hours in Core Keeper are all about survival and establishing a stable base of operations. Focus on these critical steps:

  • Secure Your Spawn Point: Immediately after spawning, clear a small area around the Core. Craft a Wooden Pickaxe and Wooden Shovel using wood from nearby trees and dirt/clay. Dig a small, defensible room and place a Torch to ward off early enemies.
  • Gather Basic Resources: Prioritize collecting Wood, Stone, Copper Ore, and Tin Ore. These are abundant in the starting Dirt Biome. You'll need these for crafting essential tools and structures.
  • Craft a Workbench and Furnace: The Workbench is your first major crafting station, allowing you to create better tools and basic equipment. The Furnace (crafted at the Workbench) is crucial for smelting ores into ingots.
  • Upgrade Your Tools: As soon as possible, craft a Copper Pickaxe and Copper Shovel. These significantly speed up resource gathering. Don't forget a Copper Sword for improved combat.
  • Find the First Boss: Glurch the Abominable Mass: Glurch is typically found in the Dirt Biome, often indicated by a larger, more open cavern. Prepare for the fight by crafting some basic armor (e.g., Copper Armor Set) and bringing plenty of healing items like Mushrooms or crafted Healing Potions. Glurch's attacks are slow and predictable; dodge its slime projectiles and strike when it's vulnerable.
  • Activate the First Core Piece: Defeating Glurch will drop a Glurch Eye, which is one of three items needed to activate the first Core piece.

Mid Game: Expanding Your Influence

With Glurch defeated, your focus shifts to exploring new biomes, upgrading your gear, and preparing for more challenging encounters.

  • Explore the Clay Caves and Azeos' Wilderness:
    • Clay Caves: Look for areas with red clay walls. Here you'll find Tin Ore in greater abundance, as well as new enemies and resources like Heartwood and Fiber.
    • Azeos' Wilderness: This biome is characterized by lush greenery and larger trees. You'll find Iron Ore here, which is essential for your next tier of tools and armor. Be wary of the stronger enemies in this area.
  • Upgrade to Iron Gear: Once you have a good supply of Iron Ore, smelt it into Iron Ingots and craft the Iron Pickaxe, Iron Shovel, Iron Sword, and the full Iron Armor Set. This will significantly boost your mining speed, combat effectiveness, and survivability.
  • Find the Second Boss: Ghorm the Devourer: Ghorm is a massive, worm-like creature that constantly circles the perimeter of the Clay Caves. To summon him, you'll need to find and activate three Ghorm's Horns scattered throughout the biome. The fight itself involves dodging his charges and attacking his vulnerable segments. A ranged weapon like a Bow can be very effective here.
  • Activate the Second Core Piece: Defeating Ghorm will drop a Ghorm's Horn, another key item for the Core.
  • Find the Third Boss: The Hive Mother: The Hive Mother resides deep within the Azeos' Wilderness, often in a large, enclosed cavern filled with larva and acid pools. You'll need to destroy several Hive Mother Larva to summon her. The fight is challenging, with the Hive Mother spawning numerous minions and firing projectiles. Area-of-effect attacks and good crowd control are beneficial.
  • Activate the Third Core Piece: Defeating the Hive Mother will drop a Hive Mother's Heart, completing the set for the first Core activation.

Late Game: Delving Deeper and Conquering the Core

With all three initial bosses defeated and the Core activated, new pathways and challenges open up. Your goal now is to explore the deeper, more dangerous biomes and prepare for the ultimate threats.

  • Access the Sunken Sea and Molten Quarry: Activating the Core will reveal pathways to these new biomes.
    • Sunken Sea: A water-filled biome teeming with aquatic creatures and valuable resources like Octarine Ore and Ancient Gemstones. You'll need a Boat or Water Walking Boots to navigate effectively.
    • Molten Quarry: A fiery, volcanic biome rich in Scarlet Ore and dangerous fire-based enemies. Heat resistance gear is highly recommended.
  • Upgrade to Octarine and Scarlet Gear: These are the next tiers of powerful equipment.
    • Octarine Gear: Crafted from Octarine Ingots (smelted from Octarine Ore), this gear offers significant stat boosts and often unique passive abilities.
    • Scarlet Gear: Crafted from Scarlet Ingots (smelted from Scarlet Ore), this gear is typically focused on high damage output and strong defensive capabilities.
  • Confront the Remaining Bosses:
    • Malugaz the Corrupted: Found in the Sunken Sea, Malugaz is a powerful mage. Prepare for a fight with numerous magical attacks and summoned minions.
    • Azeos the Sky Titan: Located in Azeos' Wilderness (after activating the Core), Azeos is a formidable aerial foe. Ranged attacks and good movement are key.
    • Omoroth the Sea Titan: The final boss of the Sunken Sea, Omoroth is a massive sea creature requiring strategic combat.
    • Igneus the Molten Mass: The ultimate challenge of the Molten Quarry, Igneus is a fiery behemoth.
  • Unlock Advanced Crafting and Automation: As you progress, you'll discover new crafting stations, like the Alchemy Table for advanced potions and the Automation Table for setting up automated farms and resource collection.
  • Master the Core: The ultimate goal is to fully understand and use the power of the Core, unlocking its full potential and perhaps even discovering what lies beyond the known caverns.

Remember, Core Keeper is an open-ended game. While these milestones provide a clear path, feel free to explore, build, and experiment at your own pace!
