Crafting & Upgrading Systems
Core Keeper's crafting and upgrading systems are fundamental to your survival and progression. Mastering them will allow you to create powerful gear, useful tools, and essential structures. This guide will walk you through the intricacies of both, from basic crafting to advanced upgrades.
Basic Crafting: Your First Steps
Crafting begins with the most basic workstation: the Crafting Table. You'll need to gather raw materials from your surroundings to get started.
- Gathering Materials:
- Wood: Punch or chop down trees found in the Dirt Biome.
- Stone: Mine stone walls and deposits using a Pickaxe (initially crafted from Wood).
- Slime: Defeat Slimes, common enemies in the Dirt Biome.
- Building the Crafting Table:
- Open your inventory (default key: 'I').
- Navigate to the crafting tab.
- Select the Crafting Table recipe.
- You will need 8x Wood to craft it.
- Place the Crafting Table in your base.
- Early Game Essentials: With your Crafting Table, prioritize these items:
- Wooden Pickaxe: For mining stone and ore.
- Wooden Shovel: For digging dirt and sand.
- Wooden Axe: For faster wood gathering.
- Torch: Essential for illuminating dark areas. Requires Wood and Slime.
Smelting & Metalworking
As you delve deeper, you'll encounter various ores that require smelting into bars before they can be used in advanced crafting. This process requires a Smelting Furnace.
- Building the Smelting Furnace:
- Gather 8x Stone and 1x Wood.
- Craft the Smelting Furnace at your Crafting Table.
- Place the furnace near your base.
- Smelting Process:
- Interact with the Smelting Furnace.
- Place raw ore (e.g., Copper Ore, Tin Ore) into the input slot.
- Place fuel (e.g., Wood, Coal) into the fuel slot.
- Wait for the smelting process to complete. Each ore requires a specific amount of time and fuel.
- Key Ores and Locations:
- Copper Ore: Abundant in the Dirt Biome. Used for early-game tools and armor.
- Tin Ore: Found in the Clay Caves Biome. Often found alongside Copper.
- Iron Ore: Located in the Azeos' Wilderness Biome. Requires a Copper Pickaxe or better to mine.
- Gold Ore: Primarily found in the Sunken Sea Biome.
- Scarlet Ore: Deep within the Mold Biome.
Advanced Crafting Stations
As you progress and acquire new materials, you'll unlock more specialized crafting stations, each offering a wider array of recipes.
- Workbenches:
- Stone Workbench: Crafted from 8x Stone. Unlocks recipes for stone tools, walls, and more advanced structures.
- Iron Workbench: Crafted from 8x Iron Bars. Essential for creating iron tools, weapons, and armor.
- Anvils:
- Copper Anvil: Crafted from 8x Copper Bars. Used for crafting basic metal weapons and armor.
- Iron Anvil: Crafted from 8x Iron Bars. Unlocks stronger weapons, armor, and specialized tools.
- Jewelry Workbench: Crafted from 8x Wood and 2x Copper Bars. Allows you to craft rings and necklaces that provide various stat bonuses.
- Alchemy Table: Crafted from 10x Wood and 5x Slime. Used for brewing potions with beneficial effects, such as healing, buffs, and temporary stat boosts.
Item Upgrading: Enhancing Your Gear
Beyond crafting, Core Keeper allows you to upgrade existing items, making them more potent. This is primarily done at the Upgrade Station.
- Building the Upgrade Station:
- You'll need 10x Iron Bar, 5x Copper Bar, and 3x Ancient Gemstone.
- Ancient Gemstones are rare drops from bosses or found in chests in later biomes.
- Craft the Upgrade Station at an Iron Workbench.
- Place it in your base.
- The Upgrading Process:
- Interact with the Upgrade Station.
- Place the item you wish to upgrade into the primary slot.
- The station will display the required materials and a cost in Ancient Coins.
- Each upgrade level (e.g., +1, +2) increases the item's stats (damage, armor, tool efficiency).
- Higher upgrade levels require rarer materials and more Ancient Coins.
- Strategic Upgrading:
- Prioritize your main weapon and pickaxe: These will have the biggest impact on combat and resource gathering.
- Consider armor for difficult biomes: Upgrading armor can significantly increase your survivability against tougher enemies.
- Don't over-invest in early-game gear: While upgrading is useful, you'll eventually find or craft superior base items. Save your rarest upgrade materials for your best gear.
Enchanting (Advanced)
Once you defeat the first boss, Glurch the Abominous Mass, you'll gain access to the Spirit Orb. This item, when placed, allows you to enchant certain gear with powerful passive abilities. Enchanting requires specific rare materials and a bit of luck.
- Unlocking Enchanting:
- Defeat Glurch the Abominous Mass in the Dirt Biome.
- Collect the Spirit Orb drop.
- Place the Spirit Orb in your base.
- Enchanting Process:
- Interact with the Spirit Orb.
- Place an enchantable item (weapons, tools, armor) into the slot.
- Add specific enchanting materials (e.g., Ancient Gemstones, rare monster drops).
- The enchantment applied is often random, so be prepared to try multiple times or use more valuable materials for a higher chance at better enchantments.
- Common Enchantment Effects:
- Increased damage/armor.
- Bonus critical hit chance.
- Life steal.
- Resource gathering bonuses.
- Movement speed.
By diligently gathering resources, crafting new tools, and strategically upgrading your equipment, you'll be well-prepared to face the ever-growing challenges of the Core Keeper world.
