Core Keeper's world is rich with mysteries and challenges, guiding you through its subterranean depths with both a compelling main narrative and numerous rewarding side quests. This section will provide detailed walkthroughs, strategies, and essential tips to help you conquer every objective.
Main Story Quests: Awakening the Core
The main story revolves around reactivating the ancient Core, the heart of this forgotten world. This involves defeating mighty bosses and gathering powerful artifacts.
Quest 1: The Slime King's Challenge
Your first major hurdle is the formidable Slime King. Defeating him is crucial for progressing and unlocking new areas and crafting recipes.
- Location: The Azeos' Wilderness biome, typically found within a large, circular arena.
- Preparation:
- Gear: Aim for at least Copper armor and a Copper Sword or Bow. The Wooden Bow is excellent for keeping distance.
- Consumables: Bring plenty of Healing Potions (crafted from Slime and Glow Tulip) and some Cooked Food for regeneration.
- Arena Prep: Consider clearing out some of the smaller slimes around the arena before initiating the fight to prevent being overwhelmed.
- Strategy:
- Phase 1 (Large Slime): The Slime King will primarily jump and slam, creating smaller slimes upon impact. Focus on dodging his jumps and attacking him directly. Use ranged attacks if you prefer to keep your distance.
- Phase 2 (Medium Slimes): Once his health is low enough, the Slime King will split into several medium-sized slimes. These are faster but less durable. Prioritize taking them down one by one.
- Phase 3 (Small Slimes): The medium slimes will further split into numerous small slimes. These are easily defeated but can swarm you. Use wide-swinging melee attacks or area-of-effect abilities if you have them.
- Reward: Defeating the Slime King grants you the Slime King Trophy, a significant amount of Ancient Coins, and unlocks the ability to craft Tin Bars and Tin Armor. More importantly, it activates the first segment of the Core, revealing new pathways.
Quest 2: The Glurch's Awakening
Following the defeat of the Slime King, the Core will direct you towards the Glurch, a colossal, ancient slime that guards the path to the Sunken Sea.
- Location: Deep within the Clay Caves biome, often in a cavern filled with water.
- Preparation:
- Gear: Tin Armor and a Tin Sword or Tin Bow are highly recommended. Consider a Fishing Rod to catch some Fish for powerful cooked meals.
- Consumables: Stock up on Healing Potions and Speed Potions (crafted from Bomb Pepper and Glow Tulip) to help with dodging.
- Environmental Advantage: The Glurch's arena often has water. Use this to your advantage by kiting him through it, as it can slow him down slightly.
- Strategy:
- Movement is Key: The Glurch is slow but hits hard. Your primary focus should be on constantly moving and dodging his slams and charges.
- Explosive Slimes: The Glurch will periodically summon smaller, explosive slimes. These will detonate after a short delay, dealing significant damage. Prioritize destroying them before they explode or lure the Glurch into their blast radius for extra damage.
- Patience: This fight is a marathon, not a sprint. Chip away at his health, focusing on safe attack windows after he completes an attack animation.
- Reward: Defeating the Glurch provides the Glurch Trophy, more Ancient Coins, and unlocks access to the Sunken Sea biome, along with new crafting recipes for Iron Bars and Iron Armor.
Side Quests: Unearthing the Depths
Beyond the main narrative, Core Keeper offers numerous side quests that reward you with valuable resources, unique items, and lore. These often involve interacting with the various NPCs you discover.
The Lost Botanist
A distressed Botanist NPC will ask for your help in retrieving rare plant samples from dangerous areas.
- Initiation: Find the Botanist NPC, typically located in a small, overgrown chamber within the Clay Caves or Forgotten Ruins.
- Objectives:
- Retrieve 5 Glowing Mushrooms: Found in dark, damp areas, often near the edges of the Dirt Biome or within the Clay Caves. Be wary of Cave Mushrooms, which can be hostile.
- Collect 3 Ancient Seeds: These rare seeds are occasionally dropped by Cavelings or found in Wooden Chests in the Forgotten Ruins.
- Find 1 Sunken Lily: This aquatic plant grows exclusively in the Sunken Sea biome. You'll need to defeat the Glurch first to access this area.
- Reward: Upon returning the items, the Botanist will reward you with a Gardening Tome (unlocks advanced farming recipes), 20 Ancient Coins, and a stack of Fertilizer. They will also become a permanent vendor in your base, selling various seeds.
The Miner's Lament
A weary Miner NPC needs assistance with a collapsing mine shaft and a shortage of essential tools.
- Initiation: Locate the Miner NPC, usually found near a collapsed tunnel or a rich ore vein in the Dirt Biome or Clay Caves.
- Objectives:
- Deliver 10 Copper Ore: Easily mined from copper veins found throughout the starting biome.
- Craft and deliver 2 Copper Pickaxes: Requires Copper Bars and Wood at a Workbench.
- Clear the Collapsed Tunnel: The Miner will point you to a specific section of collapsed rock. You'll need a Pickaxe to clear it. Be prepared for potential Rock Slimes or other creatures that might be lurking behind the debris.
- Reward: The Miner will give you a Mining Tome (unlocks advanced mining recipes), 25 Ancient Coins, and a Miner's Helmet (provides light and a small mining speed boost). They will also offer to buy raw ores from you at a slightly higher price than other vendors.
The Angler's Request
An enthusiastic Angler NPC yearns for rare fish from the deeper, more dangerous waters.
- Initiation: Find the Angler NPC, typically near a large body of water in the Dirt Biome or Clay Caves.
- Objectives:
- Catch 3 Cave Fish: Common fish found in most underground water sources.
- Catch 2 Sunken Fish: Found exclusively in the Sunken Sea biome. You'll need to progress the main story to access this area.
- Catch 1 Lava Eel: A rare and dangerous catch found only in the Lava Biome (requires significant story progression). This will be a late-game objective.
- Reward: The Angler will grant you a Fishing Tome (unlocks advanced fishing recipes and bait crafting), 30 Ancient Coins, and a Master Fishing Rod (increased catch rate and durability). They will also become a vendor for various types of bait.
